I'm worried about personal files being looked through if I bring one of my portable hard drives and my laptop.
Laptop is going on the plane for sure, but should I worry about the hard drive? Or should I just mail it? |

| So long as your hard drive doesn't contain a bomb, you do not need to concern yourself. If carrying a laptop, they will ask you to set it aside and turn it on for a quick examination. |

I've heard of US border guards going through people's laptops at the border sometimes. |

Last summer I took took my Korean government-issued laptop to Canada and the Customs officer asked - if he looked, would he fine anything that shouldn't be there? I smiled and replied "No... do I look stupid?". He just looked at me with a deadpan expression and said "Ok, go ahead." Then I went to the U.S. and was delayed about 20 minutes at Customs while they examined the hard drive (I guess I looked stupid). |
