Second that.

There are a lot of niche private trackers. I use one for getting NFL football rips, I use one for getting mac stuff, I use one for getting Asian content dvds, another has film noir stuff that is hard to find, you get the picture.

Oh plus they are more secure so you don't need to worry about RIAA or MPAA coming to your ISP and making waves.

A ratio above 1.0 will keep you a member of a site which provides fast and safe downloads. Kinda obvious.

Having a high ratio gives one a buffer so they can download stuff that might be older or not well seeded.

For some people it might seem like an e-peen thing, but IMO how much you actually upload to a site is probably a bigger indication of that, as usually if you download a lot it is hard to have a super high ratio.

Also, you need people who overseed due to all the douchebags who feel they can hit and run on a torrent and not give back. I don't do sites that penalize heavily on overseeders, as then ppl are too scared to grab something for fear of not seeding enough or leaving their puter going and overseeding too much.

well i personally have a demonoid account, but like another poster here, ive never had a problem with getting things from public places. isohunt ftw. that being said, i do leave utorrent on while my computer is on so it can upload, but i set a cap to the upload speeds lol.

^ Demonoid is a private tracker in name only. They don't seem to worry about members ratio's too much.

There are quite a few true member sites out there which are hard to get into. Invite only. They can almost guarantee d/l speeds of 1mbps or more. Once you get used to knowing that your BT sites will give you only good quality HD files at lightning sppeds, it's hard to go back to public sites.......although I do still use public sites for a lot of stuff.

i was too lazy to respond earlier in this thread, but a good collection of decent to great private trackers would enable you to find absolutely anything digital you want. and i mean anything. it's definitely not just about speeds. sure, you can find MAINSTREAM media everywhere on public trackers, but you're crazy if you think that's the majority of what's available.

also, for people who archive downloads like me, private trackers can't be replaced. i collect music and i can pretty much find any album by almost any artist in various digital forms (320kbps, CD FLAC, 32bit vynl, etc.) on what.cd. you just can't get those files on a public tracker.

as one poster stated earlier, private trackers are also great for niche interests. take bitspyder, for example. it's a private tracker dedicated for e-learning materials.

it's really hard to explain how much there really is to download on the web. i'd suggest getting into a private tracker and experiencing them for yourselves.

Are you referring to ADC Very Happy ? If you are, I love that site. I've been a member there for years and years. I just downloaded Dirty Ho last night in 5 minutes flat (6.4gb). I love all the freeleech on there. Kind of bummed they haven't started accepting BRs, though.

For example?

There is practically nothing I haven't been able to find on mininova. Literally all mainstream media is available. Even relatively obscure Korean films are readily available. The only advantage I can think of is faster downloads. But who cares? You have to wait 2 hours instead of 45mins? Makes no real difference.

Uh..no relatively obscure Korean films aren't available. I have around 400 Korean films and I constantly find tons of Korean films on private trackers that I don't find on public sites. Even if I search for the release names, the only thing I find on public trackers are old dead torrents that haven't been seeded in a long time. New, popular korean movies often show up on public trackers, but old ones are never maintained. The same goes for various other countries movies. I'm a member of two private sites (avistaz and karagarga) and I'd hazard a guess that if you tried to find all the movies that have seeds on those sites right now on public trackers you'd only find about 30%.

There are also private ebook sites that have a lot of content you won't find on public trackers. Thebox (british TV) regularly has series on it that you can't find on public trackers. When I watched Holby Blue, the first season didn't show up on public trackers until several months later. No 2 hour wait there.

You will also find a lot of music on these sites that you might not have gone out of your way to search for. If all you listen to/watch is music and TV/Movies that are blockbusters and the height of pop culture you will have no problem finding most stuff on public trackers.

I am usually 20-60 ratio on each torrent I grab. Why?

I'd tell you why, but it'd be a mod edit. You talk about the #1 guy abusing, anyone who goes significantly over 1.0, while helpful to some users is hurting other users. If you hit 60.0 on a torrent that is 60 other people that have to eat your ratio deficit. I'm sure he's hurting more people than you, but it doesn't really make yours any better.

SK possibly throttles upload speeds.
http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest-mlab.php

you can test your ISP there to see if there is possibly some throttling. I can also get a pretty decent upload speed on public trackers, easily over 100K, but on the private trackers, it crawls, even when I'm the initial seed. I up'd 2 movies (not at the same time) 15 leechers each, I never averaged more than 30k up. I can jump on any random TV show torrent and almost instantly start seeding at 150K.

their torrents are public, there is no passkey. Just find a public site that scrapes demonoid and you don't need an account there.
