Why is it I have seen this more in job advertisements than say a year or so ago?
Is it only because they don't want to cough up and pay for the flight over here? |

That... and the fact someone 'in-country' less of a flight risk (excuse the pun) as they already know what to expect of the insanity that is K-land.  |

Uh, have you heard about what is happening in US job market lately? Obviously the market for teachers here is getting so flooded that schools can be much more picky.
In 2004 it was no problem to find a job from overseas and have a ticket mailed to you.
Getting a job in Japan is the same way now. Almost all of the ads want you to be in Japan first.
Why do they do it? They want to see who they are hiring and make sure you don't have any tatoos on your face. And they don't want to pay for your flight ticket. |

| So the first major obstacle is getting here..finishing a contract...then one is more marketable simply by already being here. |

| Nothing unusual or wrong about 'preferring' one applicant over another, for a variety of reasons. Clearly it saves them money, something we cannot fault them for; we all want to do the same. |

Or, perhaps actually knowing something about your teaching, having done it for a year. Make yourself more marketable from the start through self development. |

You mean they're actually valuing things like experience,cultural adaptability, and teaching skills now? Unbelievable. |

My big concern is that hagwons are advertising for people already in Korea because they don't have the money for an airfare after paying severance for the last teacher  |

Why would that be a concern? If they paid severance, it means the previous teacher completed their contract. This is a good sign. |

That's another wishlist item.
Many schools now say they want only F-visa teachers but don't want to pay better wages. Keep on dreaming,
They'll settle for someone out of country if they can't get anyone here. |

that would be ideal ... but nah, just saves them money
there are good reasons for preference for applicants who are already in Korea ... but bottom line is money |

The point I was trying to make - poorly, was that if a hagwon has no money, they will offer crazy salaries to F2's or F4's, as they don't need to pay for housing or airfares.
I am wary of taking jobs that only want an F2. I am paranoid, but am I too paranoid? |
