I have a confession to make. Until today, I did not know how to tie a tie. Whenever a momentous occasion arose that required wearing a tie, I always relied on asking a friend to tie a tie for me... until today. Yes, I know, I know. It is pathetic.

At any rate, I was about to go to a job interview for an additional part-time job to supplement my income when I suddenly decided that I wanted to make an extra good first impression. Then, I realized that none of my friends were around. So, I googled "how to tie a tie" and arrived at the following link below.

Now, I know that I cannot possibly be the only adult on this forum that has only now learned how to tie a tie. And perhaps, there are some people on this forum who still do not know how to tie a tie. Well, in these times of uncertainty, sometimes a strong resume is not enough. Being dressed smartly with a tie could be the deciding factor.

Yeah I'm the same. In fact I'm even worse I'm 28 years old and have never own nor worn a suit (unless you count the time I was 7 and a page boy and that was hired).

I have just never needed one. Worked for an environmental consultancy firm with plenty of field work, worked for government agencies where I would have to visit farms, park rangers also don't really need suits either.

Been thinking of buying one

I really didn't either until this year when I started to go for interviews. I used this guy's videos, and now I can tie well.

I usually go for the easiest (Four in Hand) or a Half Windor.

If you can't tie a tie and can't figure out how to google it when necessary, you are doomed.

I had to wear school uniforms but only learnt the four in hand knot. I don't like the wide ones so never bothered to learn them.

I had to look it up again. Hahaha. I guess that I was suffering from temporary tie tying amnesia.

I find the windsor knots squat and unimaginitive. I know the four in hand is sometimes looked down on because it's the "schoolboys knot", but I think its slender asymmetry has more style and character.

If anyone gives me sh.. about it, I'll just accuse them of wearing the windsor knot to advertise the fact that they are smart enough to learn two knots. Wow, you're so clever Laughing

I worked in Corporate America, so I have had to wear a tie more than I would have liked to. Every man should know how to tie a tie, even if you don't wear one daily, or hardly at all. I prefer the Full Windsor knot, though it depends on the type of collar you're wearing. I taught myself on the internet. You can basically teach yourself anything these days on the internet.

I used to have a book with 500 different ways to tie a tie. It was a pretty useless book.

Are you sure that wasn't '500 ways to tie a knot'? If not, I'm very tempted to purchase said book, purely so I hang it on my wall.

I had to wear a tie at my grammar school a few years, job interviews, weddings, graduation, balls, various other occasions. I'm surprised people can live 20+ years and get away with it, really.
