How many have you seen? I'm at 45.

No "There Will Be Blood". Blatant controversy mongering.

No "In Bruges" What a travesty. Or "The Wrestler". Quite a populist list. The Devil Wears Prada? Good as far as chick flicks go but hardly a great movie. None from '09, either.

So it is. Yea, this list is pretty much bunk in my opinion. No City Of God is a complete travesty. Knocked Up? That is a joke.

City of God is on there, it's #66. I've seen about 60 of those, with a couple more in the To Be Watched file. Lots of great movies on there, but most of the ones in the top ten are the ones I liked least. I'd put the Hurt Locker a lot higher than 72, and I'd consider Crash a waste of film.

Ahh, cagg damn it. I need to get my eyes tested.

There should be a heap of best of lists coming out over the course of the next 6 weeks. I'm looking forward to the AV Club and Pitchfork ones.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Wrestler doesn't appear to be there. Slumdog Millionaire is way too high. And where's Big Momma's House 2?

It's been a weak decade for great Hollywood blockbusters, as many high budget films were just-okay and many lower budget and international ones far better.

As for Gladiator and Being John Malkovich... they seem soooo 90s despite premiering in 2000.

Of those I've seen, here are the top baker's dozen from that list that I'd most recommend Very Happy :
Quote:
84 Hotel Rwanda (Terry George, 2004)
83 The Wind that Shakes the Barley (Ken Loach, 2006)
77 Bowling for Columbine (Michael Moore, 2002)
68 Memento (Christopher Nolan, 2000)
48 Little Miss Sunshine (Jonathan Dayton/Valerie Faris, 2006)
46 Traffic (Steven Soderbergh, 2000)
43 The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008)
39 Lost in Translation (Sofia Coppola, 2003)
27 Sideways (Alexander Payne, 2004)
16 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Michel Gondry, 2004)
8 Casino Royale (Martin Campbell, 2006)
7 The Last King of Scotland (Kevin Macdonald, 2006)
3 No Country for Old Men (Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, 2007)

The following I had no plans of seeing, but must I? Neutral I guess so.
Quote:
100 The Devil Wears Prada (David Frankel, 2006)
34 Finding Nemo (Andrew Stanton/Lee Unkrich, 2003)
20 Donnie Darko (Richard Kelly, 2001)
17 Brokeback Mountain (Ang Lee, 2005)
11 Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation 9 The Queen (Stephen Frears, 2006)

These I have on DVD and will likely be selling on Dave's once I get around to watching them:
Quote:

97 Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (Park Chan-Wook, 2005)
95 Amores Perros (Alejandro Gonzlez Irritu, 2000)
94 An Inconvenient Truth (Davis Guggenheim, 2006)
88 The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson, 2001)
85 The Piano Teacher (Michael Haneke, 2001)
66 City of God (Fernando Meirelles, Katia Lund, 2002)
35 Y Tu Mam Tambin (Alfonso Cuarn, 2002)
28 The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Julian Schnabel, 2007)
25 Dancer in the Dark (Lars Von Trier, 2000)
6 Slumdog Millionaire (Danny Boyle, 2008)

These I think NOT deserving of the list (unless it's granted it's been a poor decade for depth), have glaring deficiencies imo, despite some good things about them:
Quote:
90 Wedding Crashers (David Dobkin, 2005)
78 About Schmidt (Alexander Payne, 2002)
63 There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2007)
52 The Constant Gardener (Fernando Meirelles, 2005)
41 Children of Men (Alfonso Cuarn, 2006)
40 Syriana (Stephen Gaghan, 2005)
2 The Bourne Supremacy / The Bourne Ultimatum (Paul Greengrass, 2004, 2007)

These I've never heard of but am now interested in seeing (seen any of these? whatdidyouthink?) Question :
Quote:
96 Morvern Callar (Lynne Ramsay, 2002)
44 Under the Sand (Franois Ozon, 2000)
4 Grizzly Man (Werner Herzog, 2005)

I've been wanting to get my hands on a good DVD copy of these Exclamation :
Quote:
56 Volver (Pedro Almodovar, 2006)
53 Milk (Gus Van Sant, 2008)

As for #1, the Iraq war allusion makes it smell as deserving a number one spot as Obama's Nobel Peace Prize. Rolling Eyes I dunno if I'll see it. Who saw it and how was it?

quick count and I would say I have seen around 65 movies on the list. There were a lot of movies that I thought were much older

Donnie darko
Team America: World Police
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Minority Report
Gladiator
Lost in Translation
Traffic

To name a few thought these were from the 90s

Mate you have to give donnie darko ago loved that one (but it is an odd one)

Children of men and there will be blood were both great movies and I disagree that they shouldn't be on the list.

Children of men has a replayable quality about it, while there will be blood is a beautiful movie (not the right word but can't think of the word I'm looking for)

I will then. I think I wrote it off after hearing a bad review of it.

I LIKED Children of Men very much. But I didn't think it was a top-10 film of the year let alone top-100 of the decade. I DID NOT like There will be Blood, ugh, overacting Daniel Day Lewis slaughter movie was tiring and boring for stretches, seemed over the top, comic book like but trying not to be. But I thought the Bourne movies were so-so rehashes with moments of original chase sequences, and a marginal choice on a best-of list. CRANK was twice the chase film in terms of originality in filmmaking and entertainment value.

Surprised "The Fog of War" didn't make it on the list.
