Results of Laptop testing.

Percentage of failures after 3 years:

1. HP 25.6%
2. Gateway 23.5%

3. Acer 23.3
4. Lenovo 21.5
5. Dell 18.3
6. Apple 17.4
7. Sony 16.8
8. Toshiba 15.7
9. Asus. 15.6

For all of Apple's toted reliability they're pretty low on the list.

I'm actually shocked to see Sony so low... I guess their bad rep comes from the terrible service if and when something does go wrong? Or perhaps they've improved.

Hmm. I'd better start reading titles. Still surprising to see them beaten by Sony, Toshiba and Asus though.

I think HP would have faired better, however they ran into a real mess thanks to a flawed NVIDIA chipset design they bought into rather heavily last year. Other manufacturers had some difficulties with the same chipset, but nothing like HP suffered.

I have had very good exprience with Toshiba, but like a previous poster , I upgrade every year. I did keep a 2003 model until this year & was running strong when I sold it.
