everyone should complain to GEPIK about this. State that the vacation is a big bonus of the public school system and that we will all leave once are contracts are finished to either Hogwans or EPIK. I had 7 weeks last year, and it's one of the main reason i signed again (my Principal is cool). If no-one makes a fuss then it will be enforced. There are some things which need unified action and i think this is one of them. Do it respectfully, and simply make clear that it is not fair that it is different than what is expected of the Korean teachers. We should be treated as adults, and not made to create work out of thin air for the sake of it. I know people will say, 'well you signed a contract...', but most of us were told, either by the previous teacher or the Principal, that vacation was at their discretion once the school was closed.
If you have 5 minutes free, then send an e-mail, which leads me to a question...
who do we complain to?! |

you're an idiot.
yes i signed it. yes i read it. no, i don't believe everything i hear. yes, i believed them, and i was right to (did you read my post?). The problem isn't the word of my Principal (i got 7 weeks my first year). The problem is the mandatory notice that has been handed down to all Gepik schools. Hence, if we all stand together, and make a point that the old way was better (discretion of the Principal) then maybe it will change back. |

Well foreign teachers don't have to work Saturdays like Korean teachers. If you want to be like Korean teachers, then start coming in every other Saturday.
Foreign teachers don't have to go to meetings and do loads of paperwork. If you want to be like a Korean teacher, then start going to meetings and doing loads of paperwork.
Foreign teachers don't have to deal with parents. If you want to be like a Korean teacher, then start dealing with parents.
If you really need 7 weeks vacation then wait until your contract is up and take 7 weeks off before going to a new school.
Use your time at school to study something you enjoy, or just fill out one of those "home study" forms. |

precisely the wrong approach.
Take your principal out for some samgyapsal and soju and "discuss" the issue with him after you've poured him the proper amount of soju using two hands.
principals remain more powerful than bureaucratic gepik nonsense directives. |

| ok. you 2 are obviously fine with it, so go in to class and post on Dave's or whatever you want to do. For the others that took public school positions with the 7 weeks vacation in mind, as it was a perk of the job, then send an e-mail or something. It would be nice to have those weeks back. |

'precisely'?
like i said, it's not the Principal, and who knows - maybe I will still get lucky. But that's not the point. I'm saying it should be done so the notice is withdrawn, and for that to happen a lot of people need to take action. Me taking my Principal for a drink is not going to change the situation for others. This should be done so that it is implemented across the board. |

| Don't threaten to go to EPIK. They pulled the same bs this year. I have to come in every day over the break, and sit at my desk. I asked "what am I supposed to do", and they said 'just sit at your desk from 9-5. |

precisely dumb... and dumber....
the notice will not be withdrawn, given their supply of teachers this year is bigger than in years past.
You also dismiss the simple fact that the very reason this notice supposedly exists is because some whiners in years past went collectively whining about their own crappy dice roll situations compared to others' , so now the POEs decided to collectively screw everyone.
as to changing the situation for others, I couldn't give a flying intercourse about them. Look out for number one. No one else is going to do it for you.
what's happening to you now is the direct result of the previous actions of the "others".
only a couple of weeks left till my long winter vacation! |
