Full disclosure: The folks who have opened KorVia Recruiting are friends and former coworkers of mine. I do not work for them, nor am I recruiter.

Joyce Kim and Ann Park, former employees of the recruiting company WorknPlay, have started their own recruiting company called KorVia.

Joyce and Ann were the recruiting core at WorknPlay, and they have moved on to bigger and better things. In my opinion, the good reviews that WorknPlay has had were mostly due to these two women.

If you are thinking about coming to Korea to work as an ESL instructor and have made the choice to use the help of a recruiter to do so (not always the best choice), KorVia should be a good agency to pick.

Yeah I went to a gathering that Ann threw for some of her past recruits. She was always very attentive to my emails and worked hard to help me score my first job here. I would recommend her to anyone that is looking for a recruiter.

Hi,
I'm new here and I have been in contact with Korvia. Someone from Korvia contacted me via email in really broken English basically telling me that I should get a teaching certificate. They said they weren't endorsing any specific company but had a link to a TEFL program.

Their words: "Market situation is cutthroat competitive. So even GEPIK(Gyeoggi education board) would like to recommend teachers who are level 2( one full year experience or TESOL certification.)

Is this common? Other agencies that I talked to didn't seem to have a problem with the fact that I didn't have a certificate.

I think anybody who wants a job here would be better off getting a teaching certification.

After my current contract is up, I intend to get a CELTA.

My experience with Korvia was average. Maybe it is the nature of the business but I think they have their + and - about them. Don't go head over heels...

I've dealt with Joyce Kim personally and she was very professional.

I have nothing but good things to say about her.
