Full disclosure: The folks who have opened KorVia Recruiting are friends and former coworkers of mine. I do not work for them, nor am I recruiter.
Joyce Kim and Ann Park, former employees of the recruiting company WorknPlay, have started their own recruiting company called KorVia.
Joyce and Ann were the recruiting core at WorknPlay, and they have moved on to bigger and better things. In my opinion, the good reviews that WorknPlay has had were mostly due to these two women.
If you are thinking about coming to Korea to work as an ESL instructor and have made the choice to use the help of a recruiter to do so (not always the best choice), KorVia should be a good agency to pick.
KorVia's as-yet-unfinished website is http://www.korvia.com. |

Yeah I went to a gathering that Ann threw for some of her past recruits. She was always very attentive to my emails and worked hard to help me score my first job here. I would recommend her to anyone that is looking for a recruiter.

My Chinese-Canadian bud gave me the thumbs up about Ms. Park and Co.
Why not try them out is Roch's motto for now.
Dig it.

I had contact with Joyce when she was at WorknPlay when I was looking to come back to Korea.
I got the impression that she was a very professional individual.

The name sounds almost the same as the slavish word for "W*ORE." |

Hi,
I'm new here and I have been in contact with Korvia. Someone from Korvia contacted me via email in really broken English basically telling me that I should get a teaching certificate. They said they weren't endorsing any specific company but had a link to a TEFL program.
Their words: "Market situation is cutthroat competitive. So even GEPIK(Gyeoggi education board) would like to recommend teachers who are level 2( one full year experience or TESOL certification.)
In this case, I dont think there isnt way that we could get through this without certification. If you are interested in getting on you can check out follow information. http://www.korvia.com/index.php/articles/290-get-certified-tesol-tefl-and-earn-more-salary-epik-smoe-gepik.html
We are just giving English teacher a good deal, but we dont get any credit for people assigning this course. If you getting this certification, you are not only broadening your opportunity, but also upgrade your pay scale 2.0 million KRW to 2.1 million KRW.
Final decision would be your choice, and I just would like to let you know there is chance that you could broaden your possibility and get more payment as well. "
Is this common? Other agencies that I talked to didn't seem to have a problem with the fact that I didn't have a certificate. |

I think anybody who wants a job here would be better off getting a teaching certification.
After my current contract is up, I intend to get a CELTA. |

My experience with Korvia was average. Maybe it is the nature of the business but I think they have their + and - about them. Don't go head over heels... |

While I have no experience with Ann Park,
I've dealt with Joyce Kim personally and she was very professional.
I have nothing but good things to say about her. |

Joyce Kim specializes in EPIK public school recruiting and she is now at ATC www.atcrecruiting.com. if you are in searching for a good recruiter for public schools, Joyce Kim is highly recommended.

Getting a TEFL certificate is an investment. You might make 100,000 more per month, so 100,000x12=1.2 mil, minus $200-$400 cost of program= at least 700,000 more per year. Is it worth your time? You decide.
However I don't agree with anyone who says you can't find jobs without one. From what I've seen, most employers couldn't care less about them. Some don't even know what it is. Honestly, if job opprotunities are the only reason for taking the course, you might be better off just hiring a professional photographer and wearing a tux for your photo. |
