The official Lattery Day Saints will excommunicate people who practice polygamy but the splinter groups still practice it.

To the best of my knowledge, the "splinter groups" don't call themselves Mormons. And, just a point of info, the Associated Press tells its reporters to reserve the term Mormon for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About a hundred years ago the mainstream Mormon Church changed its dogma to conform to the new anti-polygamy laws, while the splinter groups went underground and continued the practice.

Nice how God can change his word to conform to legal fashions. I guess He can do anything after all Exclamation

The fact that religions the world over have changed over times to conform to social norms and expectations is exactly why it's so confusing that people can actually possess a literalist belief in religion.
