every morning this week we have had protesters outside of our apartment building.

we live at a major intersection in our city. the protesters are laborers at a company getting screwed.

they set up on the corner with a van that has massive speakers on it then they blast the most godawful music at top volume while they stand around wearing billboards.

we have contacted the police but they say it is legal to do this.

I have considered throwing eggs at them or going down at cutting the speaker wires.

if I were fluent in korean I would go down there and talk to them. ask them if they truly believe they will get support by pissing off everyone in a square kilometer.
suggest that they set up a free food and beer stand to gather support.

Why is this a common theme?

A group of American kids last summer were singing at the beach (not too loud), the police were all over them.

Protesting is perfectly legal, at least for Koreans. But that aside, I don't really see what the problem is. Just because we come from countries that are apathetic about political involvement doesn't mean that we should expect everyone else to be the same.

How early in the morning?

I dunno. It's hard to sympathize as the cell phone shops play their pop music at incredulous volumes all the time and that is in the spirit of capitalism.
Unless it is insanely early and most decent folk are asleep, I say let the protesters have their fun. At least they aren't carrying pictures of fetuses or trying to convert anyone.

Here's what you do.

Go to the nearest hardware store (or online) and purchase yourself a bullhorn.

Then, walk right up in front of the protesters and say 1,000,000 times in a row, in a completely monotone voice, "LALALALALALALALALALALALALALA"

Almost immediately, they will start the gradual 'push-shove' attitude against you, you can call the cops for harassment and battery, and problem solved.

Please be aware I am slightly insane when it comes to dealing with Koreans and my advice should not be trusted.

To be honest, I egg those trucks in front of city hall playing loud music all day, and I also drive next to those slow moving trucks selling worthless shit yelling out the window with my equally loud bull horn in Korean "안 사", which means "I'm not going to buy!"

Every time that has happened, the people we pass usually break out laughing.

Don't ever break a picket line. Let them strike (I'm assuming that's what it is...a strike). Americans have gotten so goddamn complacent about politics we forget what it's like to actually fight for something.
