|
|
I am currently working in a public school with EPIK. Im leaving 6 months early in August and plan to put in the 30 day notice as stated in the contract. Does anyone know if they will screw me out of my last months pay at all? Or screw me out of my summer vacation time? Any advice would be much appreciated!! |

If you are giving a months notice, you aren't breaking the contract.
You should be OK. |

Yes, they can cause you grief.
A word of advice, if you want the minimum of problems regarding deductions in your last month, wait till you complete your 6th month and give your 30 days notice as required.
They may piss and moan but they can't go after your inbound airfare or settlement allowance. You will get your deposit back.
If you give notice before the 6 month mark you will have a fight over it because they may consider that you haven't completed your 6 months. It is a crock but will cause problems.
If you are planning to leave or give notice during your first 3 months, just leave the day after payday but don't plan on working in Korea for the next year. Don't give notice - it will do you no good and will make your last month more miserable than it already is.
Sorry it didn't work out for you.
Side issues:
IF you are leaving to take up a new job in Korea:
a) you will need a full set of documents again.
b) EPIK won't release you. You will have to go to immigration and tell them that you quit, get an exit order then apply for your new visa. When you get the new confirmation number, jump to Japan for your visa run and start your new job.

Great advice.
Do you mean that you have to go to Immigration immediately you give notice, or only advise them if/when you come back to Korea at the end of the contract date? |

IF you want to ensure that your visa is indeed canceled so you can return BEFORE the year is up then you MUST:
go to immigration within 14 days of leaving your employment, (after you quit working)
tell them that you quit,
GET AN EXIT ORDER (ensures that they actually did cancel the visa)
and
then you have until the date of the exit order to find a new job and do a visa run.

So, is there no need for a letter of release in this situation? |

IF you want to transfer from one school to another you DO need the LOR.
IF you want to quit, LEAVE, return and begin work again with a NEW visa then you do NOT need the LOR provided your visa was canceled (by getting the exit order).
In the specific case of this thread, EPIK will NOT grant a LOR so the OP or others in the same boat will need to quit, notify immigration AFTER they have finished work, get the exit order, find a job, do a visa run and start again from scratch. |

Ok..BUT im not switching schools or anything. My job is very nice..great co teachers and a good principal. I'm just not happy here and know Im going to leave in 6 months and am not worried about coming back. I just dont want them screwing me out of my settlement allowance. Does anyone know of anybody who left the program EPIK early to go home and did they get screwed over? |

1st reply, 2nd paragraph.
IF you give notice BEFORE your 6th month is complete you WILL PROBABLY have issues over money. You can almost count on it. Even if you are working up to or past your 6th month mark in their eyes you quit at 5 months.
If you give your notice 1 day AFTER your 6th month date then you are fine because in THEIR eyes you have completed 6 months.
If you really are unhappy now ... wait till payday and leave
or read up on culture shock.

i am actually thinking of doing the same thing, or maybe even leaving before my six month mark. Actually, it will be my 1.5 yr mark. I just don't know if I will get my pension back if I leave early. I also heard that I have to pay back some of my resigning bonus, like 800,000 if i leave early? |

IF you are from one of the countries that qualify for the NPS pension refund then you will get it regardless of how or when you quit.
Yes, if you leave before the 6 month mark of your new contract you will have to repay 1/2 the re-signing bonus.
