Plobabry because his name was Moo Hyeon so the next letter sounded will be a n in Korean. Like that station soenneung, spelled Seon leung.

He didn't choose that, that's how most Koreans romanize that name.

and actually, that subway station is 선릉, and pronounced like 설릉 (seolleung, not seonneung).

aren't most surnames changed after they're "americanized"?
i think the western version of korean surnames aren't too dramatic compared to the changes in european names when people immigrated to america.

I agree that it should be romanized to Yi. Here is a figure of antiquity for reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yi_I

Yi is not accurate, and impossible to spell in Korean.

You got it mixed up, the station's name is 선릉 it SHOULD be pronounced as 설릉 (Seolleung) by rule, but this is one of the few exceptions and gets pronounced as Seon leung.

Another example of this rule: 신림 --> '실림'

It sounds ridiculously infantile and primitive to have a single vowel sound as a name.

Its hard to take someone seriously who wants to be adressed as "ee oh oo".

Part of it I think is Korea being pedantic. I mean how much taxpayers money did it cost to change all the road signs and textboos from "taegu" to "Daegu" and "Pusan" to "Busan".??

Apparently not all that much. I still see signs in both places with the old romanisation. When it comes time for the signs to be replaced, then the new signs have the new spelling.

OP, you're wrong mate.I saw Lee's dental clinic last Thursday as my yank friend went there to get some teeth cleaned. We then went off to the Wolfhound for some London Pride, the bloodiest best name for a beer I've ever heard. Me, I don't feel comfortable correcting Koreans and their names, but you go and have a jolly old time with it, you'll be loved and respected for it.
