If it is your basic hagwon or teaching job then i would agree with that statement. However I found most of the directors that think like that are not the nicest people to start with and I wouldn't want to work there anyway.
The best employers are the ones who don't really mind what country you come from as long as you teach well and do a good job for them. In my experience...the multinational hagwons are the best ones as the children get access to a wide range of accents.
However it is a fact of life here that the TOEIC exam is based on a North American accent so I can see why there is a preference. |

I don't think anyone would dispute that Hagwon owners, in large part, discriminiate based on accent and country-of-origin.
My aussie and kiwi friends on here openly say that they have a more difficult time finding a job due to where they are from. Oddly though, in some of the better places I've worked, there have been some Aussies in the mix, too.
But like I said originally, with less to choose from due to your country-of-origin, you might have to take a roommate (unless you aren't in a hurry to find that perfect job). |

If so many foreigners in Korea are "freaks", is it "begging the question" (whatever that means) to say that very few sensible people come here and stay for long? Or that you almost need to be a freak to be here long term or more than a year?
When I think about it I doubt any of my old buddies back in Canada could live here more than year, if that long. Many of them seem quite intolerant of foreigners in Canada even! |

| define freak, like really what are we talking about here?, i know at least 5 people that have been here 4+ years, not one of them would i regard as a 'freak'. |

Especially when the MA is crying for top salary. (or in this discussion case -- a job without a roommate).
I didn't say it was right... just saying it's fact here in Korea. Sad as it is.
