Teaching isn't always about the money. |
I think I was clear about that. Sometimes its about contacts. But why would you do a job for 50-60% of what you could be paid? Thats just stupid. People act likely teaching is some holy work that needs no pay. Bullshit! You need money to live in this world and you might as well make as much as you can while you're doing your work. Because I promise you if you're dumb enough not to take all you can get, nobody will give it to you out of kindness. Looking out for your bank account doen't make you a bad teacher, it makes you a smart one.

I think I could be worth millions to the right employer, regarding where I am or what my health is. That doesn't just apply to Seoul. |

I think I was clear about that. Sometimes its about contacts. But why would you do a job for 50-60% of what you could be paid? Thats just stupid. Well here is how I see that. If I don't know someone I will charge them premium rates. However if I do know someone, I can't in good conscience charge them that much. Example: A teacher at your school asks you to help teach his wife a bit. He has done tons of favors for you, what do you do? Me, I'd want to say no if asked, but the guy wants you to do it as a favor...well would you charge him full price? I'd do it for free depending on how often it was.
I think teaching is a noble enterprise. I know what you are saying, we aren't in it for charity and that is true. But sometimes it isn't always about the money - sometimes it is about helping friends out, or doing favors. If that is what you meant by contacts, well guess we just have different ways of expressing it. |

Yeah I would ask him to do it for free.
My mom's best friend is a lawyer, she did some legal documents for me, FOR FREE.
It's called doing favors. I am sure if I needed the lawyer to represent me on a longass case, she would charge. Same if a friend needs me to use up a ton of my time. 1 hr a week for a friend, isn't much time IMO. |
