Can anyone tell me what it is like?

I have never heard of anyone living on Geoje. I'm going there this weekend to do some hiking.

I'll let you know if I see anything that even remotely resembles a night life.

I live here as do about 200,000 others.

There are loads of things to do and see.

Lots of restaurants, thai, indian, russian, turkish, american.

We have the usual starbucks, mcdonalds, kfc, vips, pizza hut invasion.

The nightlife is what you make of it. The esl teachers on the island are a great bunch, there's always things to do, nights out, gatherings and what have you.
There are loads of Bars, okpo has a hell of a lot of bars aimed at foreigners such as british and irish bars. some of them aren't all that good and the area can be quite seedy in places. Gohyeon has a lot of bars too, a couple of german bars, 3-4 wa bars, and a few others too....plus the usual selection of korean bars.

Most shops you could need are here, bean pole, foot locker, nike, adidas, asics, skin food, body shop, homeplus, cgv etc etc.

There's also going to be a new department store opening, according to the poster they had up a few months ago it was going to have a bennigans and som other restaurants (but apparently these shops were just for show for the picture)

A group of us play soccer on saturdays for 2-3 hours. We just play against whoever challenges us on the day. We are undefeated against aduclt teams so far but we did suffer a golden goal defeat to some middle school students we beat them in a rematch the following week though

The area has the highest number of foreigners per capita in the country so we have a good variety of western food available either through the various foreigner stores or the larger selection of western goods available in our homeplus.

Anything specific you need to know, then just ask.

I was just a bit worried about going somewhere so small, you hear stories about isolation, just wanted to double chek it wouldn't be the case...

Starting work in Gohyeon in January, is there anything notable that you cant get on Geoje that I should be stock up on at home?

Ah yes, teabags, i'll be bringing a bale of Lyons I think

and you can get the ferry onto the mainland and be in bigger cities like Busan and Changwon (where you can get a train to seoul) quite easliy and cheaply.
Its also a great place to ride if you have a scooter/bike.
