after having my contract cancelled with CBFLIS i was supposed to have an interview with a school in Paju and that's been postponed for the 3rd time now.
I've registered with a few more agencies and EPIK seem a challenge to get into; i can't get letters of reccommendation on headed paper 
I have the following qualifications:
MA- English Literature
BA- English Literature
Diploma - English Language
CELTA TEFL
and i have nearly 2 years of experience working in schools, as a teaching assistant and a cover supervisor. i am also multi-lingual.
i'm 31 and female and a British citizen.
if anybody could help me find a job that would be brilliant. and my husband will also be travelling with me, but he is not a teacher.

| Have you got any TEFL experience? If so I'd apply to the British Council. If not, try the university route |

can i still apply to universites without having a teaching licence?
and how do i apply to universities? i haven't seen any listings on TEFL job sites.
sorry if i sound like a complete newbie, but i guess i am one |

| A lot of Korean universities only require an MA in any subject. They assume that's enough to teach EFL. The good ones probably require experience in TEFL at university level as well but there adverts on Dave's for Unis that don't. |

If you're going for non UNI / TEFL etc specific jobs I kid you not when I say ommit you MA and any higher quals from your resume and just display your BA.
5 of the biggest recruiters in Seoul advised me to do similar and told me that public schools as well as many hakwans only want non experienced fresh grads this year (NA females being preffered) that they can pay 2mil - 2.1 mil max.
Pm me if you want copies of the emails and if I get a spare ten mins tomorow I'll copy and paste em for ya.
Or go a few pages back in this here forum and you'll find a thread by me called 'Is the sky falling?' and another thread started by a different poster with a title something like 'hard to get jobs now?' And you'll find that I pasted the emails sent to me by recruiters there. |

I am a bit confused. Are you IN Korea or are you still in the UK?
If you are in the UK and have your MA, BA and CELTA, why in Ghod's name are you trying to find something (language institutes no less) in Korea?
Land yourself a nice position on the Med. Coast of Spain or Italy and enjoy life.
IF you are desperate for any job that you can land, look at China or Thailand. Again, with your qualifications you should be able to find something in the 10,000RMB (or more) range + housing for you and your husband + the other usual perks. The initial salary may be a bit lower but the savings at the end of the day are usually more due to the lower cost of living (regulated economy).

employers in Korea focus less on individual qualifications and more on teamwork.
In fact, employers in Korea have been known to turn down highly qualified candidates for fear that they would intimidate less qualified employees. |

I'm in the UK and most of the jobs that i've seen on the Med are either low pay or want more experience. i wanted to come to South Korea because the salary and perks seem good, i can gain experience, live in a different part of the world and save money. it will put me in better steed when applying for my next job.
and i've paid �236:00 to a public notary today to have my certificates apostilled.
i'm feeling really down at the lack of offers coming in but i will try ommitting my MA. the agnecies that i spoke to seemed happy with it 
i registered with more agencies today though. that's about 14 i've got now |

As I said earlier, unless you have your heart set on the land of the morning calm, you can easily land a position in China or Thailand ASAP and be at work in less than a month (with the proper visas and work/residence permits).
At the end of the day your savings will be about the same as Korea.
Your apostilled documents won't go to waste and with the exception of the CRC won't get outdated either.
As far as recruiters go, hit as many as you want to find the job you want in the place (country) you want. You do need to be aware that you are off-season for all but the language institutes in Korea. Look at December applications for March starts in the public school sector.
Thailand is hiring NOW for November starts. They will have a much larger "hiring season" in March-April for the May start of the new school year.
China is similar to Korea in so far as you are mid-term for all but the language institutes but there are still LOTS of unfilled positions (demand is growing and far outstrips the global supply of ESL teachers).

i was weary of going to Thailand because of the social corruption there. it might sound naive or 'western' of me, but i can only go by what i see on the news and hear.
otherwise who the hell wouldn't want to live in Thailand.
with regards to South Korea, i see so many jobs describing Nov, Dec, Jan start dates??
i don't mind working in a private institue. my CRB runs out early November as well. |

You can try other locations. If you're UK citizen, spain are accepting teachers.
