If you are working those 30 classroom teaching hours a week already, then I would object to the online grading without pay...if, however, you are under hours, and are making it up by being at the school checking essays...then, while annoying, I would say that is fine....

How do you teach 30 hours a week and NOT already work Fridays?

@thegadfly: I teach from 2pm-10pm Monday through Thursday, w/ a half hour for lunch from 5:30-6pm. So, 7.5 hrs/day multiplied by 4 days = 30 hrs a week.

Sounds like you're complaining because you're bored on Fridays. This isn't something that I would complain about.

It really doesn't sound that bad. Just ask the director if you can do it from home, otherwise grading essays is part of the stuff you do on your own time really. Even back home it was like that.

FWIW, I guess I should also mention that I grade all of the essays for all of the students here at my hagwon, not just the students I happen to have in my classes. My Korean coteachers (including the director) don't grade essays.

And how many does that all total?

There's about 70 students enrolled here at the moment. So, assuming all the students complete their weekly essay, that makes about 70 essays per week that need to be graded.

Yeah, I think I might say something about that amount of work.
