I save 10-20k each year teaching in Korea. In contrast I never saved a dime teaching in the US.

Well I make $47,000 a year in America.

I leave at 6:30 a.m. and dont get home until about 5:00 a.m.

I pay $700 for rent, $300 car note, student loans, utilities, car insurance, health insurance, teachers union, and of course groceries.

You can save a lot of money if you live with your parents though.

I would love to just be "an ESl teacher." lol.

Why was that exactly? What was your expenditure like in the US?

What does 'willing to work at actually teaching' consist in and by 'better-than-average gig' do you mean PS, private lessons, or both?

"Willing to work at actually teaching" means that you actually plan lessons with educational goals, rather than filling time.

"Better than average gig" means a more competitive hakwon or international school. Starting salaries of 2.9+ million a month are not unheard of (one such school currently has an ad up, but is currently looking for a Korean teacher -- the open foreign teacher position was filled without needing to be posted).
