| I save 10-20k each year teaching in Korea. In contrast I never saved a dime teaching in the US. |

Well I make $47,000 a year in America.
I leave at 6:30 a.m. and dont get home until about 5:00 a.m.
I pay $700 for rent, $300 car note, student loans, utilities, car insurance, health insurance, teachers union, and of course groceries.
You can save a lot of money if you live with your parents though.
I would love to just be "an ESl teacher." lol. |

Why was that exactly? What was your expenditure like in the US? |

What does 'willing to work at actually teaching' consist in and by 'better-than-average gig' do you mean PS, private lessons, or both? |

"Willing to work at actually teaching" means that you actually plan lessons with educational goals, rather than filling time.
"Better than average gig" means a more competitive hakwon or international school. Starting salaries of 2.9+ million a month are not unheard of (one such school currently has an ad up, but is currently looking for a Korean teacher -- the open foreign teacher position was filled without needing to be posted). |
