You still are required to file. You need to contact the IRS. |

You went four years living in Korea, reading this forum (where people ask about taxes all the time), and never once asked any of your friends whether you need to file a tax return, until now?!
Yeah... you should probably just stay in Korea forever. |

You need to file. You almost certainly owe nothing, so there will be no penalties. But you must file anyway. |

You do not need to file. I didn't file for years while I was in Korea. I filed when I came back to the U.S and started working. |

It's a weird system where you have to give money to someone without that person even asking. And no one finds it strange. The founding fathers must be rolling in their graves. |

Kuros is correct. You're in no way screwed. |

Climber and Kuros are right. You still gotta file.
I was in the same boat, my friend. I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box when it comes to tax matters, so I contacted the H&R Block there in Itaewon, and they filed all the tax forms for the missing years and the necessary IRS paperwork for me. Set me back W300,000 or so, but at least I'm good with the Man back across the water now. |

I tried to E-file from Korea, but my 2009 wasn't accepted. I had the 6 month extension request accepted, but when I tried several times in July, August, and September, my E-file wasn't ever accepted, because they require a paper form sent in or there was some error in transmission. You can download the forms to fill out for previous years and mail them. The problem is you never really know if they received them and accepted them. I guess you can call them a couple months later to follow up.
Really, just download them and get caught up. One time I was 3 years behind, but I filled out the forms, mailed, them, and just continued from there with no problems. |
