| So that's what it was about. I've been out of Korea for the last several weeks and just came back. I thought it had something to do with that. |

| If it's mailed to your workplace, don't be surprised if your employer opens it even though it's addressed to you. |

That wouldn't be surprising. Many foreign teachers won't even get this notice because their employers will open it. |

It is not only E-2's that it affects.
I also received the letter and I am on an E-7.

Does it really matter if we do? It's pretty clear that the new rules apply to everyone. |

That post even shows the letter that was sent out -

I still haven't worked out the "Letter of Release" part
Does it mean you don't need a letter of release anymore - if you are "not dismissed or resign before your contract is finished) - Basically does it mean that if you finish your contract and wish to take another job - you DON'T need a release letter - and you don't need to go on a visa run to Japan - you can just change it over to the new job at immigration?
Can you just finish one job and notify immigration that you are starting a new job without needing a letter of release? |

It's been an issue in the past about how Immigration hasn't properly notified everyone of changes to procedures and requirements. So, yes, it does matter how the notification process is being handled. Many people read this site and use it for information. Odds are that these notification letters may be a surprise to many who don't follow the news on a regular basis. By posting questions and getting answers potential misunderstandings may be headed off ahead of time. |

This thread was started a full day ahead of any other thread on the subject of notifications from Immigration. Plus this is a subject for the "Job discussion" forum, don't you agree?
As for your other questions, L&MaC, why not call Immigration? |

I wouldn't say a "Full day ahead" - this thread however was started 16 hours before the thread on the General discussion forum.

I completely agree - it belongs on the Job discussion forum.

I find calling immigration useless - as I could phone them and ask a question and get an answer.
I could then phone them 20 minutes later - talk to a DIFFERENT person - ask the same question and get a completely DIFFERENT answer.
hence I find calling them useless. |

Schwa nailed it.
These changes are interesting but do not systematically change the rules.
As for the letters, this is not like mailing 20 people.
It is about mailing a large number of foreign teachers across the peninsula considering their respective contract and visa expiration dates in order to prioritize people. |

Patrick and Schwa.
I am not sure I agree.
2007, I changed jobs and had to do a visa run to Japan.
2011, I was told I can change jobs and simply do an extension on my visa.
I am free to not do a visa run or re-provide new documents.
If that is incorrect, can you provide me a contact number in Immigration other than the one who I talked too who can say differently. |

That is an interesting change summerwine and frankly a good way to streamline the visa renewal process. |

My husband got one, he's an F3, but it didn't have his photo on it. It was in English and had his ARC number, name and dates. Kind of nice to get the reminder though.

I thought the new rules stated that your first boss does NOT have to agree to it, that you just report it to kimmi |
