if i hadn't just FINALLY gotten my hands on the nikon 85mm 1.4 (the earthquake/tsunami crap really messed up pricing and availability), i'd have been all over this in a heartbeat.
:shakes fist: arrrggghhhh!
but anyone who's interested, it's been getting pretty impressive reviews from all the websites i've seen, and some of the demo pictures i've looked at seem quite excellent. |

Spicy,
The Nikon 85mm f1.4 is a great lens. I've used both the D and G. And honestly, aside from some corner to corner sharpness, I'm not overly impressed with the G vs. the D given the price difference. If you need AF-S, then the G is worth it simply for the AF speed but in terms of IQ, I think you're really paying a super premium for that 10%. |

I have been shooting with the Nikon 85mm 1.4 D for more than a year. I have tried the G. The G seems to be a little faster on the focus and perhaps a tad sharper in the extreme corners. However, the D version seems to be a little creamier, especially the bokeh, the main reason I purchased the lens. Too, I shoot a digital camera and an older film camera so I need the M-Aperture for the film. Both are wonderful lenses. |
