if i hadn't just FINALLY gotten my hands on the nikon 85mm 1.4 (the earthquake/tsunami crap really messed up pricing and availability), i'd have been all over this in a heartbeat.

:shakes fist: arrrggghhhh!

but anyone who's interested, it's been getting pretty impressive reviews from all the websites i've seen, and some of the demo pictures i've looked at seem quite excellent.

Updated original post with a link to pictures.

Spicy,

The Nikon 85mm f1.4 is a great lens. I've used both the D and G. And honestly, aside from some corner to corner sharpness, I'm not overly impressed with the G vs. the D given the price difference. If you need AF-S, then the G is worth it simply for the AF speed but in terms of IQ, I think you're really paying a super premium for that 10%.

I have been shooting with the Nikon 85mm 1.4 D for more than a year. I have tried the G. The G seems to be a little faster on the focus and perhaps a tad sharper in the extreme corners. However, the D version seems to be a little creamier, especially the bokeh, the main reason I purchased the lens. Too, I shoot a digital camera and an older film camera so I need the M-Aperture for the film. Both are wonderful lenses.
