Worst city?

Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

New Brunswick is the armpit of Canada and Moncton is the armpit of New Brunswick.

Nothing but strip malls, dirt, more strip malls, dirt, some churches, mud, an ugly eyesore of a mall and the city's main highlight is a river of mud running through the middle that I and several of my cohorts (we were teens) used to spend a fair amount of time throwing stolen shopping carts into.

I should add that the city is full of rude quasi-French folk that don't even speak real French (look up the Chiac dialect).

Any city in Nigeria, particularly Lagos. It's the sort of place that just makes me want to kill myself.

Absolutely disgusting country - full of violence and crime, disease is rife, poverty, litter, foul smells, bad healthcare, sh!tty infrastructure, ridiculously overcrowded, nothing to do, corrupt police and government, quite possibly the most humid place on earth, lack of education, stealing and looting, lack of water, everyone and their mother trying to scam you, transportation is a joke, electricity always goes off, bad roads, armed robberies and kidnappings are as frequent as the sunrise, stares everywhere you go.

Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China. Though Pohang is a close second, but at least I had a bit of a social life there many years ago. Odd thing, had a good job in Taiyuan and a horrible one in Pohang, and yet Taiyuan was worse.

My rural city here in Korea tops the list of course. But DC and Las Vegas get honorable mentions too.

Damascus, Syria.

Not necessarily a really bad city, but the worst I have lived in. Nothing to do but smoke shisha in the cafes (which is not a bad way to pass the time at all, but it gets boring after a while), no really good food, you are done with all of the cool historical type sites (which are admittedly very cool) after a few days, not as cheap as some other Middle Eastern cities, and most importantly, people are not very friendly at all, in stark contrast to most Middle Eastern cities. A handful of somewhat interesting places such as art galleries, friendly bars and the like, but they are VERY difficult to find, and not even all that great once you find them.

Having traveled throughout the Middle East, though, I can recommend almost any other major city. My favorite (and probably favorite city anywhere in the world) is Cairo. Total opposite of everything I just said about Damascus: infinite variety of things to do (plus the shisha for lazy days), any kind of food you can imagine, more awesome sites than you could see in a lifetime, very inexpensive, and the friendliest, most genuine people I have ever met in my life.
