I have lived in a lot of cities and my vote for worst city goes to Adelaide , Australia.

There is a joke that goes like this-Whats the worst suberb in Sydney? Redfern.

Whats the worst suberb in Melbourne?
Fitzroy

Whats the worst Suberb in Adelaide? Adelaide

I think the better joke goes:
Hobart- proof that South Australians can't swim.

Seriouly, though, my vote would be for Changchun, China. It wasn't all that bad (at least, not to the point of being intolerable), but I've never lived in a place that I truly hated.

Sorry to hear about Astrakhan Sad

I'm so into the History of Russia that I forget that they are in a bad situation now. Too bad.

I've heard about 'them people' in Calgary, I wonder how they got that way considering most Canadians are easy going and friendly enough.

Simple. The Liberal Government's National Energy Program coupled with -a substantial increase in new residents that the infrastructure cannot support. Also, said residents are changing the political landscape.

Worst city?

Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

New Brunswick is the armpit of Canada and Moncton is the armpit of New Brunswick.

Nothing but strip malls, dirt, more strip malls, dirt, some churches, mud, an ugly eyesore of a mall and the city's main highlight is a river of mud running through the middle that I and several of my cohorts (we were teens) used to spend a fair amount of time throwing stolen shopping carts into.

I should add that the city is full of rude quasi-French folk that don't even speak real French (look up the Chiac dialect).

Any city in Nigeria, particularly Lagos. It's the sort of place that just makes me want to kill myself.

Absolutely disgusting country - full of violence and crime, disease is rife, poverty, litter, foul smells, bad healthcare, sh!tty infrastructure, ridiculously overcrowded, nothing to do, corrupt police and government, quite possibly the most humid place on earth, lack of education, stealing and looting, lack of water, everyone and their mother trying to scam you, transportation is a joke, electricity always goes off, bad roads, armed robberies and kidnappings are as frequent as the sunrise, stares everywhere you go.

The worst city by far WINNIPEG ,MANITOBA ,CANADA.
1.THE HEART OF THE CITY -Downtown winnipeg looks like a third world country. When I went downtown , I couldn't beleive I was in Canada. In fact , I ve been to third world countries which have a nicer downtown then winnipeg.

2.WEATHER- I can't beleive how cold winnipeg is .Not only is it cold , but the winter never ends. There have been snowstorms in May.Every winter the locals complain about the winter. They all say that this is their last winnipeg winter and plan on moving to a warmer climate.
However , the second a none -winnipegger complains , the locals will jump to the rescue with such statements as , " you just have to dress warm" , " its really not that bad "

3.ENTERTAINMENT- Its boring! The night life is nothing more then a bunch of run down night clubs and ugly women. Some of the worst restaurant food I ve ever eaten , came from winnipeg. There really is nothing to do there.

4.THE WINNIPEG JETS- In the early 90's , I had the misfortune of visiting winnipeg. thats all the locals could talk about is how winnipeg was the greatest hockey city in the world and htey were the number one fans . then early to mid 90's , winnipeg's pro hockey team decided that they would head south in hopes of making more money.Since then , every hockey season , Winnipeggers have claimed that the Jets will come back ."Its only a matter of time ,before the NHL beggs winnipeg to take back the Jets"- claims Joe winnipeg .Its been about 15 years since the Jets left.

I could write a book about how bad winnipeg is.
If GOD ever said -"winnipeg or Korea for the rest of your life "
Id pick korea.

THE JETS ARE BACK BABY. Or at least Winnipeg's hockey team.

Las Vegas. Hands down. It could possibly the worst city in the world.

Amen. An endless sea of strip malls, incredibly obese people shoveling food down their gullets, a vacuum of culture, art, or intellectual culture, and an endless parade of gold-diggers and gangstas. It's dry and cold in the winter, and over 100F six months a year. When it gets really hot, the city smells like chlorine from all the swimming pools.

Can someone second this? I always thought Vegas would be a kind of cool city to live in. Question

I think that description is pretty good, though Las Vegas does have some redeeming qualities. It's a crappy city but there are worse ones, like Atlantic City, or anywhere in New Jersey for that matter.

Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China. Though Pohang is a close second, but at least I had a bit of a social life there many years ago. Odd thing, had a good job in Taiyuan and a horrible one in Pohang, and yet Taiyuan was worse.

My rural city here in Korea tops the list of course. But DC and Las Vegas get honorable mentions too.

You can't forget about the kidnappings, too. Laughing

I'd have to go with Rockford, Illinois - high crime, high unemployment rate, narrow-minded people, and a pathetic downtown area. Rockford must have about 50 fast food joints, yet you put in one Indian restaurant, and it struggles.

I didn't care much for Cheongju, either.

Damascus, Syria.

Not necessarily a really bad city, but the worst I have lived in. Nothing to do but smoke shisha in the cafes (which is not a bad way to pass the time at all, but it gets boring after a while), no really good food, you are done with all of the cool historical type sites (which are admittedly very cool) after a few days, not as cheap as some other Middle Eastern cities, and most importantly, people are not very friendly at all, in stark contrast to most Middle Eastern cities. A handful of somewhat interesting places such as art galleries, friendly bars and the like, but they are VERY difficult to find, and not even all that great once you find them.

Having traveled throughout the Middle East, though, I can recommend almost any other major city. My favorite (and probably favorite city anywhere in the world) is Cairo. Total opposite of everything I just said about Damascus: infinite variety of things to do (plus the shisha for lazy days), any kind of food you can imagine, more awesome sites than you could see in a lifetime, very inexpensive, and the friendliest, most genuine people I have ever met in my life.

Friend of mine grew up in the 1980's in Calgary. Indian dude from India. He was beaten up everyday for being 'coloured' by people like that. He said its better there now Shocked

What??? Damascus was super cheap when I was there (albeit it was in 2004). Did things shoot up or something? And there is definitely more to do there than smoke sheesha. And I found people there to be definitely friendly. I would choose Damascus over Amman any day.

I had a love/hate relationship with Cairo. Crazy (but fun) place. Just a shame the air is utterly disgusting.
