| Hope you don't mind me asking Bruce, how is the document gathering/job search going? Any further forward. (If you feel this is too far off-topic, just say so, no problem.) |
No....its very much coming down to a wait and see sort of situation. I was thrown a curve the other day when someone reported that Poly is asking for two copies of the applicant's degree instead of the usual one. Up until then I was pretty well fixed for everything.
The responses are likewise pretty much wait and see. C'est Bon.
Best Wishes,

You need two apostilled degrees for a Poly now? I never knew that. You have everything else though by the sounds of things which is good. |
Yeah...apparently....

Damn.... I just knew that was not going to come across right. Sorry about that.
I was hoping to draw a parallel between past experiences and the present. I think this is going to be one of those comments where the more I say the worse its gonna get, so I think I'll leave well enough alone, yes? FWIW, it came from a good place. As far as "Racism" or Racist" goes.... I've found that intelligent people can talk about Race and Cultures without being restained or bound by a fixed set of beliefs.
Best Wishes,

Fair enough -- if I had a nickel for every time I said something that gave the wrong impression, I would be far closer to retirement...which is why I try harder nowadays to consider the response to the words I choose. I am sure that you do, too...we all slip up occasionally.
Cheers. |

Why apologize? According to what you wrote, you only addressed a possible parallel in certain cultural behaviors, of which not all are positive or even based on race. Some tend to use the "R" word out of context. |

Here is my 20 won.
At a school or any organization you get treated depending on your own actions,
When I came to the school I didn't really have a clue what I was doing, at that time it was embarrassing, and I would have done everything in my power to get rid of me if I was them... let's say it like it is I was completely shit.
after 20 weeks I was OK at what I was doing, they warmed to me a little
1.5 years down the line, I run everything in my class and I am still learning but improving and out of my 5 co teachers I am ranked number 3 most just sit in the back of the class and relax.... and look to me for discipline, and oh yes Mr sticky did come out. Now my co-teachers ranked 4-5 come here on for their own end of year classes to have a 'listening class' AKA watching a film in my room, they sit in the back and do their own paper work. So if you were good at your job and made their life easy......... It makes no sense for them to sabotage anything, regardless of nationality, or your assumptions.
Bottom line, in schools there is a social status 'thing' going on, if your co teacher is above you, understand one thing... you jump through the hoops like a nice doggy.. no matter if your skin is black white yellow or orange. |

Unless you're at a school that routinely screws its teachers, which is why you do your footwork to assure that you're not. |

For the first few months things weren't all peaches and cream.

For sure, and I've had similar experiences, but there are plenty of hagwons that will burn you regardless of how good you are. To tell a newbie anything else would be bad advice. |
