Clearly some of you that consider yourselves real teachers (you are not), have taken this post the complete wrong way. If you are fueled and motivated by the respect and gratitude of your Korean bosses and the love of your students then good for you. 90% of people here are not.

It takes a lot of prep work to make your lessons truly student centered, but once you get to class, they practice with each other and you simply facilitate. It's a lot more fun this way, and you should try to figure it out.

Each lesson set an essay writing contest with a first prize of candy going to the longest one - irrespective of any merit.

If you want 'hands off' activities where the students get on with their work without you having to do much, you can get them to work on projects such as making posters or mini-books on certain themes. MES English has some good exercises like this.
Buy or make some cards for Go Fish. Bogglesworldesl.com has a lot of free stuff you can use. Once they understand it, kids love this game, and if you give them prizes for winning they will happily play it for hours.

Actually the OP made some valid points and i see no reason to attack him/her.

Many kids do not want to be in class (no matter how amazing or charismatic the teacher). Not all students are alike. Some can be unruly and little 'a-hole' like in their manner. What's the point in spending huge effort in preparing a lesson if they're not going to respond to it.

The OP simply wanted to find an activity that his students would respond to, activities where the students are active and using English without realizing they're learning English. Actually i would argue that the OP is doing his/her job by trying to match material to his/her students. Remember, they spend their lives looking at books. They are children sitting in a classroom on a fine summer's day. The absurdity of it all should not be forgotton.

People on this forum are so bitchy sometimes. Ladies, put away the handbags and remove the stick from your backside. What the OP said in his/her own slightly crude way, was something most teachers feel or have felt at some point. It's hot, the kids don't want to be there at the end of a long semester and they are probably acting out.
I for one, have been in a similar situation, so I don't mind lending some support in terms of ideas and tips.

Thanks to all. I expected a mixed response. Just to quickly address the negative people: yes it does take a lot of work to make a lesson student-centered. I know that students learn more in such an environment.
I also work part time in a "real" school that uses modern methodology.

However the program that I referred to insists upon the use of the materials they provide. Some teachers are reprimanded for deviating from this. The whole point of the curriculum is to prepare them for an asinine test where they regurgitate a lot of useless information.

I'm pleasing my employer and the parents. Why should I risk my job to put in extra time changing the whole curriculum just to get yelled at and possibly fired? What I'm asking for is just some fun activities to supplement the material. Thanks to all who commented!
