| Are there any good over the counter (non prescription) sleep aids I can get when I arrive? I've got some Nytol from the UK but I don't like the rebound effect the next day - it makes me tense. |

you can't get sleeping aids over the counter. what they'll give you if you ask is antihistamines.
i forget the korean for "sleeping aid", but when i used it, that's what they gave me.
they work, they're just not the same. |

just say you have trouble sleeping. they do give them over the counter.
Just say the below or print it out

I hate it when people make claims when they have no idea what they're talking about. 
You can get sleep aids over the counter no problem. Just find the nearest pharmacy and say "sleep" and make the sleeping motion with your two hands as pillows and close your eyes, they'll get the picture.
Right on the box will be a picture of a little man going to bed or some cartoon like that.
Be warned though, these things are stupid strong. Take one and you'll be out for 11 or 12 hours and be drowsy the rest of the day. I used to take a half of one a solid 10 hours or more before I had to be awake. Even then I had to practically insert the coffee through an IV to keep me up. |

It's a shame that you're the idiot giving false information. The strongest 'sleeping aid' available over the counter in Korea, is in fact, as has been stated nothing more than an anti-histamine that causes drowsiness.
The same is true in North America. If you want something stronger such as a benzodiazepine then you need a prescription.
However, it is comically easy to get a prescription for Valium, Xanax or Ambien here.
If you have trouble sleeping and want Ambien, go to a 'Well Being' Doctor/Psychiatrist. Simply state that you have trouble sleeping and they will prescribe Ambien.
Ambien is incredibly potent as a sleep aid and also habit forming, so only use this if you really need it.
The trade name for Ambien is Zolpidem, so likely on your prescription form it will say 졸피뎀 or similar. |

jesus, dude, i was trying to help the dude out. from what i've read, UNDERSTOOD FROM DOCTORS I'VE TALKED TO, and experienced myself, you can't get anything stronger than an antihistamine over the counter. they're NOT traditional sleeping aids.
whatever. i'm getting pretty sick and tired of this forum. |

I have purchased melatonin over the counter in Korea. Mild but effective sleep aid. Not every pharmacy seems to have it available, though.
It always helps me with my let-lag pretty well. |

Melatonin is also available in Namdaemun in the imported foods section. Its in the basement of the "D" group of buildings. Just look for all the booths selling vitamins etc. |
