I just heard terrible news. There is an article that Sam Lee From Pearson, who was the go-to guy for the Northstar series, was murdered in Indonesia. Anyone have the link??

Terrible thing. NICEST guy. Recently married.

So, what exactly did happen? Any reason given? Was the guy who did it caught? I always thaught many Aisan countries had a kind of no foriegner attack rule. Kind of where the penalties are much harder for attacks on foriegners. (Not to say something can't happen if you're up to no good, though.)

That's awful. This lovely man handled orientation for me while at YBM, he came and observed classes after 2 months and gave such great advice that I still use 4 years later. He'll be much missed.

I'm not sure if we know many details yet, but I did hear from a Cambridge employee that was apparently at his funeral was today. Even though they are from different companies, these people know each other pretty well from interactions at events and such.

Pearson will seriously be hurting after this if they haven't trained anyone else to help people in the local market with the Northstar software. At the time we worked with him, Sam was the 1-man-band local-guru know-it-all about the online side of the Northstar series. And that's saying a lot, as it has an extremely steep learning curve for the typical teacher. While we worked with Pearson, it was obvious that nobody else understood how to run it, and without Sam, they'd be clueless and having to call corporate for help. That was some time ago, though. The poor guy was stretched EXTREMELY thin, but I never remember him complaining about that. He was a total workhorse.

I feel so sorry for his wife. They just married recently.

He was a great guy. I helped train him when he first arrived, and it wasn't long before he was trying to recruit me to work with on his team over at YBM head office. He was always right in the middle of things, and I'm sure he'll be missed everywhere anyone knew him.

wife had met him a number of times through her employment at a competing company, he was in town for KOTESOL and presented there. She and her office are devasted by it. He was just transferred to Pearson's HK office from what my wife told me. My wife had been down in Indonesia on business in June and she didnt feel safe there. I was happy she had the local rep with her at all times

Apparently he took some sort of local transit without the local rep with him when it occurred.

Really, really sad. Now I hope my wife doesnt have to go there anytime soon.

I never met the guy. However, it seems like he was a great man. Losing a person like him is very hard. Perhaps, someone wanted to rob him and, then, kill him. Foreigners in some poor areas of any place in the world can be vulnerable to those who want to harm them.

My friend went to
