I've been in and out of Korea since 1995, and I'm finally leaving for good. Something I've held my tongue on since a recruiter friend of mine told me. A lot of recruiters get lead's from Craig's List Seoul under "Help Wanted, Education." On the flip side of the coin, a lot of schools advertise there everyday to avoid paying recruiters money as well.

You'll see a lot of them saying that they don't want recruiters contacting them. If you are looking for a job, cruise Craig's List Seoul. Be polite and follow their instructions to contact them. For example, if they say don't contact them by phone, don't do it. But let them know you are available, can come soon (or are in country) and have your paperwork ready.

You'd be surprised how fast they'll respond to someone who is ready to go and has paperwork to prove they're legit. Tight market? Yes, but sans recruiter; much more teacher friendly......................

It's a good thing that a lot of schools are posting there on their own. Cut out the middle man. Deal directly with the person hiring you.

I posted a job for my school there and got back a response from a 19 year old without a degree who put "Photography -I have an old Polaroid camera" under her interests.

That's nothing, we once got sent a CV by somebody who'd listed their hobbies as:

Mimicry (donald duck), Music & Net Surfing

Part of running a school is wading thru BS, right? But instead of paying recruiter fees, which are becoming more ridiculous all the time, you can get it straight from the teachers themselves.

Dave's used to have the service free, and it helped a lot of teachers in a bind. They could hear back directly from school managers/owners themselves quickly. After he started charging for it, the people who started using it were the recruiters who were trolling.

The school could just advertise a site which has a form to fill out. That's what many recruiters use.

Both people I've met who found a job on Craigslist had exceptionally lousy jobs. (Forced overtime on Sunday, pay problems, terrible housing, more than the usual level of crazy from the director, that kind of thing.) That was two years ago though, maybe the selection there is improving? It would be great if more schools found out about it and could avoid the recruiters.

Definately not! Most of the jobs on there are crap, the exception being those that say "F2/F4 visa only" and "females only". The jobs on there are laughably bad. But maybe that's most jobs everywhere in Korea in this currently terrible ESL market.

And it is recruiters as much as schools posting on there. I see the same old jobs spammed over and over again. It's like other job sites, but without regulation.

She also listed one of her accomplishments as having been given a dress by a fashion designer she worked for.
