|
|
...because i just got myself a job at a certain university in Gyeonggi-do, and having asked, they say they don't offer any final salary severance pay.
i was under the impression that this was a legal requirement under korean law - usually one month's salary when you complete a year's service.
I got this in my last hagwan job, and I know all public schools pay it, maybe unis are different?????
i was about to send my documents through to finalise the job, but I may hold back until i get this clarified.
anyone got any answers?

Well, it used to be that universities did just that, but not any longer. If I understand correctly, the laws have changed and so they've been exempted from doing so if the teachers are on a private pension scheme (whether being on a private pension scheme is better than being on the national one is a whole different discussion). |

right, I heard that from some other people too.
that's a bit of a blow.
I don't really want into the pension either, hope I can opt out and not have them deduct the money from my salary. |

My university doesn't give severance pay either- the contract lists the annual salary, and my monthly pay is that number divided by 12. |

Private universities were exempted from severance under the Labor Standard Act (and by referral to the ERBS Act) and by presidential decree but are required to enroll you in a private pension plan that will accrue similar benefits over time as per the Employee Retirement Benefit Security Act.
