Go to 4:16 on the video and look at Regis's crotch. That says all you need to know about how they did. |

Lip-syncing their way to the dream baby.
They looked absolutely ridiculous on Letterman (smacking one another, they were so crammed in), even more so on that morning show. Shaking their Eurasian butts on national TV at 7 AM....sad. |

They're going to flop so hard. Why is it so embarrassing to watch this video. Who can explain why it would make ME embarrassed....it's an honest question. I wasn't the one up there but I cringe with anxiety when watching it.
Weird. |

| At the end of the day it's about the music. Yes they looked good and danced well but the song was so so (it sounded like a toned down version of 'who let the dogs out?). It doesn't have a melody you can hum. There's no reason why a Korean act can't have a hit single in the USA or Europe but the song needs to be up to par. Lots of pure pop acts from other countries have been a hit in the UK for example, e.g. Aqua, Barbie Girl (Denmark), Macarena (Spain) AHA (Norway) but it was always the songs that did it for them. They were incredibly catchy and caused a stir on the dance floor. With average material, it's a lot easier making it if you're local. Sure the Koreans will have a real hit eventually but I don't understand why they keep trying to turn it into a nationalistic 'wave' that's sweeping the world. The whole point of a 'wave' is a lot of mediocre stuff gets swept up and lumped together with the odd gem or two. Real quality acts always try and avoid being associated with such a term. Yes they may have the odd individual hit here and there in the West in the future but that's all it'll be. And they haven't even achieved that so far. |

What an awful song that was.

This is just the beginning...
The marketing will continue. It won't be popular from a musical standpoint, but it will get more exposure.
An audience likes novelty and something new. It sounds like C-grade American pop circa '97, but they are Asian and cute. There's your novelty.
For most adults, it will be seen as ridiculous, but think about how the under 12 crowd will view it.
And think of the perv factor. Without the legs and gyrations, you'd have almost nobody over 12 able to endure it.
It will make a brief splash and then they'll be a backlash via mocking from shows like Daily Show, Southpark, SNL, etc., and then it will crash but still retain its Asian teen fan base.
Then again you never know. If Nicky Minaj can become popular we obviously haven't reached the bottom yet. (speaking of bottoms) |

Yes. Nor would there be the blues, rock and roll, disco, electronic music, hip-hop, etc. If you're a digger, you'll see how African Americans had a higher impact on every form of American music than many people would choose to acknowledge. Essentially, African Americans created American music. |

And the weed helped too.
Along with psychedelics, heroin, and other substances.
"electronic music" would have existed but wouldn't be nearly as funky without African American influence. |

Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of early house music (aka off beat Disco at the time), where black people owned it at places like the Garage and turned it into what was to become electronic music. American music is generally a drug-infused, stylistic self-progression, fueled by drugs and groovy black dudes. And I mean that in the best possible way. I'm a huge jazz fan, and the most skilled practitioners were almost always black guys who were addicted to something; in the 40s-60s, usually heroin. That being said, my favorite jazz pianist, Bill Evans, was a white guy... but he was also a heroin addict for most of his life. |
