Seoul Pub is still there, but it's character has, in recent months, been irrevocably changed. For many years it was a place where slightly older people (30's, 40's) could go and feel comfortable. But I was there on the weekend and it was easily 80-85% young Koreans in their late teens and early 20s. I'd seen the trend over several months, but I'm afraid to say the old Seoul Pub has now gone. I don't know whether netizens have decided to "reclaim" the place (for some reason), or if it's just because it's the first pub you approach after ascending the steps from the Itaewon subway. Or maybe it's just part of the ongoing Koreanization of Itaewon. Either way, I'm in the search for a new pub. Nothing against young Koreans having fun on the weekend. I just don't have any interest in spending my time in their midst. Not why I go to the pub. Not why I go to Itaewon. I think a lot of other regulars will be looking for another bar too.

Anyway, Seoul Pub. It was nice knowin' ya.

Bless U and Dolce Vita are decent and often have an older crowd. Bless you has one of the best pints for value in Itaewon.

Koreanization of Itaewon.

I guess I understand what you mean, but it still sounds like a parochial view.

Exactly, I figured that due its character it would be among the last to fall. I agree, it's strange. Of all the places in Itaewon, I can't imagine young Koreans opening the door of Seoul Pub, glancing in and deciding that "Aha, this is what we've been looking for." Weird.

Anyway, it's happened.

I am beginning to wonder how long it will be before the street vendors are removed.

IMHO, most of the long term people who are older that I have known have left Korea because it was no longer worth it to them financially, they wanted Western schooling for their kids, etc. Older singles have gone to China, et. al. That could be why.

What time did you go?

Seoul Pub's customers change routinely. The 7pm crowd is completely different than the 9pm crowed. The midnight customers are completely different than the people that go in there at 3am.

That might be so. I'm rarely out past midnight. But I'll tell you something, at no point in the past did any of those groups consists of Korean kids. There was one girl sitting at the bar last week smoking and drinking, and I could swear she was no more than fourteen or fifteen years old. I pointed it out to the waitress and she simply smiled and shrugged.

Now, that's new.

I would think Mr Jung would be all over that kind of thing, last thing he wants is his cash cow off limits , or raided by police.

Besides groceries and shopping, Itaewon sucks unless you're some kind of isolationist weirdo. Don't waste your time there or get out of Korea.

You've never been to places like Praha, The District, Berlin, Zelen's, Etc....

Isolationist? More and more Koreans are going to Itaewon instead of Gangnam/Hongdae nowadays. See the Gentrification of Itaewon thread.
