Do they keep a copy like immigration or just shred them and require them again next year? |

The MOEs keep the document and its accompanying apostille. They will not return those to you for any reason whatsoever. What they will do, though, is give you a notarized copy of both documents which you can use only in Korea. You will need the notarized copies if you plan to switch provinces or to change from public school to a hagweon or university. |

Do I have to make a formal request when I hand my documents over to them or can I get the notarized copies at a later date? |

Perhaps you mean immigration (for copies of the documents)?
Kimmi will issue proper copies for use within Korea (like for E2 holders to give to the MOE) and will not release original documents that they have collected.
The MOE has no policy in place yet (that I am aware of) since they have only been collecting the documents for the last month or so and the documents are still in the hands of the regional education offices.

By MOE, I meant Municipal Office of Education. The BMOE does have that policy in place already. The notarized copy they'll give you is not the notarized copy you gave them. It's a copy of what you gave them with a Korean notarization attached to it. |

A notarized copy of a notarized copy... This is getting to be lots of fun. |

More and more, I find myself asking why the government here doesn't just change the name of the country to Through the Looking Glass.

The answer I got when I raised the question in February was that you just have to go to the BMOE and ask. You don't need to justify the request or submit any form. |

Well, after all the hassle of getting my CBC and Degree Apostille, my school looked at them, made a copy got me to sign them and sent the copy of them to the MOE!
I still have my original degree and CBC with Apostille attached.........
This is with a GEPIK public high school, I had been with them just under three weeks before my documents actually arrived and I've already been paid for my first months work even though it was only 17 days......
I'll have to wait and see what happens about my documents and if the MOE will actually ask for the originals. My school are happy and said I could take them home with me.

I gave all my documents to my POE and have never given anything to immigration. They have never asked me for anything. The POE is the one who keeps all the documents. You can either get them back or get a copy of them when you go to another province. |
