Pick a bus - maps, routes, times, prices:
http://www.airport.kr/airport/traffic/bus/busList.iia?flag=E
Scroll down the page for your destination. Pic at the top is bus loading zones at ICN.

Yes, there is another Gwangju in the same province as Seoul. It's quite a bit smaller than the Gwangju down south. Make sure you go to the right one. |

The furthest one will be more than 3-4 hours, and the closer one should only be about 2 hours give or take traffic issues.
If you don't have a lot of luggage, you could take the subway. Sometimes buses get crowded at the airport and you can't be near your bags (they stick them in the front). I wouldn't want to do that from a ride to either Gwangju. However, there are many transfers by subway if you are going to the closer one. Up to you which you feel more comfortable with.
I think you would want to go to Yatap station and perhaps meet your school there. They should be able to take you the rest of the way. I am not too familiar with that area though. There might be a better place to meet them.
If you go the bus route, it looks like you'll want "1층(1st Floor) 7A" based on this info http://www.airport.kr/airport/traffic/bus/busList.iia?flag=E
The other Gwangju is listed further down.
More information on the closer one can be found at http://wikitravel.org/en/Gwangju_%28Gyeonggi%29 and http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=200212
Seems like everyone has their own theory |

There seems to be some kind of Limo service too, has anyone done that? I wouldn't mind paying extra, except I can't tell if it's the Gwangju that I need to get to.. |

Assuming you are going to the Gyeonggido one, it only shows "Cross-country". Looks like this is the result of the way the highways are set up. Traveling on the west of Korea seems to have more options. When I lived in Andong, I could only take 1 bus. It appears they have extended this to the airport as well.
Look at the bus for Seongnam(Shinheung-Dong)(5300), maybe you could take the limousine bus there and either transfer or meet someone from your school there. Maybe a taxi would do. Ask about the costs.
Also look into the one listed before, Boondang(Ori Stn)(5400) |

I'm about to do the same. Bus ride from Incheon to Gwanju, Jeollanamdo. I'm carrying the name of the city and province in Hangul so at the very least I can just show it to someone and they can point me in the right direction. |

Forget what I said earlier. The bus for the southwestern Gwangju does have limousine service, 1층(1st Floor) 9C |

If it's the Airport Limosine, that's a bus...which is fine. But just so you know. |
