Yank journalist Bryant Gumbel covered the 88 Olympics in Seoul and recently returned to Korea to film a spot on female golfers. Here is an interesting clip on his reflections of how Korea has changed since 88 (and how it has stayed the same):

As a boxing fan, I will only remember the 88 Olympics as the place that had the worst robbery in boxing history.

Speaks volumes about Korean culture. Check out the ajoshi in the yellow jacket standing over the judges as they are making their decision.

I'm guessing the poster was using Yank as a matter of humor. looks interesting I'll watch after I'm finished with work.

Sure, but it's still rude. Would it have taken so long to type "American"?

Yeah, he was an excellent example of how Koreans are anything but polite to a fault. Mr. Gumbel, don't even pretend to know the first thing about this place. You're embarrassing yourself. Make your little video then go home.

Well, it is true if you're visiting. Actually working in country is a different story. Also it helps if you look American and not some SE Asian tourist.

^^^ saw that & wasn't sure if the guy was Korean or foreign, but she DID quickly unclench hands.

The delivery guy on the sidewalk - absolutely a Korean thing! Loved it.

As an American, Who cares ?!?!? if someone uses the word, 'Yank'. Don't be so thin skinned.

& I remember that Roy Jones fight - absolute travesty.

Even his opponent (whose name excapes me at this moment) knew it, which is why he never went pro. Look at them now. Roy Jones went on to become one of the greatest fighters in history and won multiple Titles and lots of money and eventually went broke and is now desperately trying to relive his former glory and barely getting by journeymen. God damnit it makes me sad.
