I just phone our embassy in Seoul to set up an appointment for next week. However, there was no one in at 11:00 to answer my question about what information I need to have for the form you have to fill out if you don't know a doctor, lawyer etc. in Korea.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think I need to have the information for my past 5 years of employment history, along with where I have resided. And, in addition I need to have 2 more references. I just want to make sure because. I am coming up to Seoul from Daegu and I have to take a day off work, so it is already a pretty expensive endeavor.

If there is anyone that has recently had their passport renewed in Seoul who can tell me, I'd appreciate it.

The Canadian Embassy does periodically visit Daegu. They sent me an email about a visit last month.

You might want to contact them before heading down. They are getting really tight about having a guarantor. I went down with all the docs in hand without a guarantor and they asked me to go out and try again to find someone. I notice while I was there...two others were also asked to go to try and find someone to be their guarantor.

They also take dentists and signing officials of banks. I went to my daughter's dentist to find his office closed and I told them I tried...then I could submit the in lieu of a guarantor form and finally complete my application.


Now, I have been in Korea for quite some time, so they felt it strange that I didn't have any contact with any official enough to be a guarantor. I had one, but he passed away last year.

If you are traveling, then send an email before you go....or one last look for someone. They didn't really care that I didn't go to that dentist, just that he had seen me and could identify my picture.

Also, make sure the new two references that you pick are available to be contacted. They contacted mine the day after I made my application. One guy didn't answer his phone and they had to keep calling. It was a Seoul number and he doesn't usually answer calls unless he knows the number. Funny thing, they asked both references the colour of my eyes...these guys have known me for over 5 years....and neither guy got that or my weight correct....

I renewed my canadian passport a few months ago.

You dont need a guarantor. If you do have one it faster to get through the paper work. If not, no big deal. Theres a Form you can fill out at the embassy if you dont have a guarantor. .

Its the "Declaration in lieu of guarantor". Embassy will act as your guanrantor HOWEVER you will need 2 extra references Which CANNOT be the same references as your passport application. This caught me off guard because i only had 3 references and had to quickly get the info of a fourth one. THey will absolutely call the references. In my case they called them literally 30 minutes after i left the embassy. THey also ask them a bunch of questions like your height, your weight , your eye colours , your job , last them they saw you ECT soo make sure your references "know" you...

The Declaration in lieu of guarantor Costs extra money. I forget the exact amount but i think it was 75-100$ more!!!!!

Also yes , make sure you have all info pertaining to where you lived with dates for the last 5 years and also employers and all their info for the last 5 years... Again this caught me off guard i was only expecting for the last 2-3 years...

It took about 2 weeks to get the passport back in the mail... good luck.

If they just did ten year passports like other countrys it would b so much esier
