I have worked here a number of years. I had trouble getting the last CRC 3 years ago from Korea but was able to do it easily through the Winnipeg Police, even though I have never lived there. They have recently changed their policy, understandably.

My last position, I was able to go to immigration and print off a copy of my CRC that was 16 months old and use it for the new afterschool position. I had even left the country for 2 months in between. My friend in Seoul has been using the same CRC for the past 4 years and since changing jobs 3 times. Another friend used his last CRC twice. However, we all know how inconsistent and frustrating immigration can be here. Depends who you talk to...

So now I am in a dilemma. I was told I don't need fingerprints, but I do need the national check and the VS. I have both addresses in Vancouver, and Nova Scotia but it seems almost impossible to get anything done here overseas. The Vancouver website says you need to come in person, or send documents in the mail including your fingerprints, which will take many months.

Can anyone tell me if they had a similar experience and how they dealt with it? Or any ideas on what I can do?? Please help!! Greatly appreciated!

This guy will get it done for you. I've used his service three times over the last 7 years. Calling him to let him know that it's for Korea and he'll get everything done for you including Express Posting it to you. You dont have to provide fingerprints. Whoever told you you need VSS is wrong. VSS is not even provided on checks for overseas.

Most often the best and common way to get a CRC from Korea is with the RCMP.

It just takes a long time and some leg work.

The Winnipeg change was about 2 years ago.

Maybe you left the country too long. There is a sort of rule about 90 days out of country and then needing a new one.

OculisOrbis got to it before me. You can not get a VSS for any application in Korea. A VSS can not be issued for use outside of Canada.

There is some confusion on what kind of check it needed now with immigration. Some places and the Canadian Consulate says it has to be a RCMP fingerprint check. Yet immigration and the Korean consulate still are verifying other ones like RCMP name check and immigration keeps accepting.

As to what to do for RCMP, it has been discussed often. Please consider searching the board with Google. Add the line site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea to the search box and what ever words you need like RCMP.

Thanks a lot Skippy and OrculisOrbis. OculisOrbis, once I get the crc sent to me, can I notarize it at the Canadian Embassy? Or do I have to get it done from a Notary in Canada? I keep reading that I have to get it notarized back in Canada and then take it to the Korean Consulate separately. Is it possible to get a affidavit of authenticity at the Cdn embassy that covers both?

Really appreciate it!

Who is telling you to get a VS? Immigration or the school? I feel I have read countless times ttompatz saying a VS can't be used outside your home country.

I have been telling for while too.

It might be a ill informed recruiter asking. I remember seeing a recruiter website asking for items and things that where changed or dropped years ago. Just now, saw Footprints Recruiting website that says people do not need one, but consider getting one! Just found another site that says to get one.

It says on the RCMP/VSS website that a VSS for over seas in not allopwed. Ihas been a policy since 2009 here in Korea, when the Canadian embassy informed the Korean government not to ask for it.

From the VSS website.
Quote:
How can I obtain a vulnerable sector check to work in a position located outside of Canada?
vulnerable sector checks can only be performed for positions located within Canada. Police agencies are not authorized to perform vulnerable sector checks for positions located outside of Canada. This rule applies even if the person will be working for a Canadian organization.

Plus another Dave's Esl Cafe post that cuts and pasts an old notice from the embassy.

No VSS needed, but an RCMP check (federal, not metro or provincial) is required for instructor registration with the Ministry of Education.

That is why I said call him and let him know that the check is for Korea. He is aware of what is required for korean checks. He will personally take it for notarization and authentication at the consulate in Toronto for you and then send it to you fully completed and ready to submit to kimmi. There's extra charges for that, but they are reasonable. I highly recommend him.

I have talked to him already and have started the process. I talked to the Canadian embassy here in Seoul and they said they are able to notarize it, and since I am already in Korea, I do not need to take it to the Korean Consulate in Canada. I hope the embassy is correct. However, his prices for his services are quite reasonable. Thanks for the recommend!
