That comes from this article:
http://news.yahoo.com/skorea-secret-runaway-teen-prostitution-084457639.html
which has the fact vaguely, and not directly sourced to, "authorities"
It's unknown where that number comes from, but my guess one of those special interest groups that likes to hyper inflate numbers by including anyone remotely connected to prostitution (female hair dresser who styles a prostitute's hair? that's one. Taxi driver who picks her up, that's another). The keyword is "involved" it doesn't actually say they are prostitutes. For every real prostitute there could be 10 to 20 people "involved". |

The ajumma mafia reigns supreme in Korea |
That's true! One of my students' mothers told me that she was trying to sell her apartment, and she got a visit from a group of ajummas that told her that there was a certain price that she could NOT sell below. |
Well that seems like smart business to me in an apt / condo situation. Market value will be based on comparables in the same building or nearby buildings so sale price is important to everyone there. |

When even the Korea Times, a rag not well known for unbiased reporting, decries the amount of corruption in Korea, we know it's sickeningly bad.
In Transparency International's latest survey, Korea continues to fall in the rankings.
Even former President Lee said "The entire nation is rotten." Of course, his own brother was sentenced to jail for corruption related charges.
The point is that Korea does not take corruption seriously. If other Asian nations like Singapore can root out corruption and come in toward the top of the rankings, then why can't Korea end its endless cycle of corruption "considering how corruption is all-pervasive in each and every group of people in this society; from civil servants to businesspeople and even entertainers and athletes."

| What Korea needs to do is to promore a system of bureacracy, laws, lobbyists and PACs so that its corruption will become legalized. |

Why fix what ain't broke? Just as Korea can boast of the world's healthiest food, kimchi, it can lay claim to the one of the finest systems of corruption in the world.
In fact, few know that it was only after consulting with Korean advisors that Indonesia pushed its way to the top of the corruption rankings. This of course has led to much chagrin on the part of the bureaucrats who gave away invaluable Korean state secrets. |

Did you click on the link? According to it, South Korea is far more corrupt than the countries from which we come. What do you think of that, America basher? |

"The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be" it's a subjective ranking, and I'm curious who it is they asked in NK...and frankly any rating that gives NK a positive score can't really be trusted. |

Dude. North Korea was dead last (tied with Somalia). Do you honestly believe Canada (your home country) is more corrupt than South Korea? Or equally corrupt? (As if both countries would have exactly equal amounts of corruption. What an amazing coincidence that would be.) |
