i believe no one has the right to education and everyone has to work hard for it.
The stupid kids are just a waste of time ( dont write 'stupid' - say something like 'mental spastics' it sounds more professional) - you should concentrate your energy on the clever ones.

There are no stupid questions - only stupid answers.

OK, well...I posted this in a different topic but I think it is also applicable here, as well.

Quote:
"stupid" came from his own mouth...

Some of you are just a nasty, spiteful lot (and this is not limited to this particular index)...comparing a kid who just needed a little guidance and encouragement to, "Hitler Youth"....? It would ave been very easy to simply choose the student everyone was pointing at, i.e., the smartest one. However, she has a natural disposition, in which case, is not a fault. But, the one I chose for "class captain", probably has not had the form of encouragement as the other...and though I do not mistake effort with results, I do not ignore a student who I think CAN do it but just needs some encouragement.

To an extent, it is a bit amusing to actually read posts that seemingly go out of their way to be gaudy, obsequious to their own bitterness, and take umbrage to posts that while ARE written by choice, project a dilettantish approach to project spite.

When I say "amusing", I say in a context that projects an underscored gratitude, that while nobody is perfect, at least I do not posses this lack of sagacity, that some here have..

Moving on...no, I am not looking to work with EPIK. I do not wish to be disgruntled, nor do I wish to allow myself to NOT waste my time on "stupid kids". As I mentioned some time ago, this is not my first time in Korea and I refuse to adopt the attitude that some here are projecting.

Now, the poster who mentioned speaking and a big stick....very basic and is applicable. I like that...T.R. is giving you a nod.

To Lucas...OK, then.

I see learning English, or any foreign language, is comparable to learning to play a musical instrument.

1. You have to know what you are reading.
2. You have to know what you are hearing.
3. You have to know how to process that information in your brain.
4. You have to be ready to communicate said information.
5. You have to know how to use your instrument
6. You have to practice.

As one who studied music a long time a go, in a galaxy, far, far away...I find these concepts match quite nicely in how I approach engaging the students.

So...YOU can use that on YOUR EPIK application.

Classroom Mood and Control is everything.

Me, I rarely write on the board and never give stamps/rewards.

K-kids are all about connection. So, I connect with the kids.
K-students are all about duty. So, I make sure they know we HAVE to study these pages today.

A lot of repeating, a lot of questions.

I control my conversations with the kids. I dont speak above their heads.
I also control bad ones by appealing to their sense of duty and then if they doesnt work,
I have the other kids beat them down

I also have a dont fuqkc with me thing for the other ones, and a soft look for the younger ones.

Ive generally done very well, and made a decernt wage throughout my time here,

I also speak Korean but wont in class, and when I speak to them, Ill relate things they like, maybe with the Korean word, but in the middle of an English sentence.

I guess thats what I do. Works for me...
