Anyway a successful tournament for the US considering the group they came out of. Probably the best English speaking football team now. |

Howard finished with 16 saves, the most ever recorded by a goalkeeper in World Cup history.
Belgium was the better team, but still, the US had their chances. |

On a local level, my hometown now has a very successful MLS team - the Orlando City Lions, and they just made a splash by signing Brazilian soccer icon Kaká to a 3.5 year contract. For PR purposes, they could not have timed it any better, as they introduced him to several hundred fans gathered in downtown Orlando to watch the US-Belgium match.

Perhaps...and it may be because the U.S. actually had a good coach. If it were up to me, I would keep him.

I'm not sure where you got the impression that they had not played a game.

USL-PRO is not MLS, no?
Talk about having pride in making your high-school Hall of Fame.
Have news for you: MLS is considered a semi-pro league by the rest of the world. USL-PRO are two notches below that, and is not even a promotional league to MLS. Would you say winning in semi-pro-amateur league as success? If you're small town team like say Genets d'Anglet in French CFA-C, then yes. But Orlando is not a small town, is it? Perhaps what he really meant was, a very ambitious team, then the description fits. Otherwice, success comes only after some major silverware. |

Great weekend of football coming up! I'm hoping Colombia and Belgium get through, and I don't mind what happens in the other games. Costa Rica making the semis would be an incredible story but I'm hoping neither Brazil or Argentina win the whole thing and Netherlands would be a better bet to stop either of them
It's going to take extraordinary willpower to get up at 5 for the second game tomorrow morning. Staying up til 3 is hard enough for me, but the WC is hotting up now and no work tomorrow  |

Hey, I don't know why you're mad at me. I'm not the one who called you a doofus. I merely addressed your comment about them never playing a game. Ok, I see now that you were making a distinction about not having played a game yet in the MSL and you are correct in that.
But I didn't say anything about pride and I was not comparing Orlando City to the rest of the world - I was commenting on the surge in popularity the sport is enjoying in the USA in general and my hometown in particular.
Maybe ambitious would have been a better word to use, but success is a relative term, and compared to what things were like for the sport in the US even 2 or 3 years ago I still say they(the organization) have been very successful in what they have accomplished - ticket sales, the signing of Kaka, and yes, even on the field. |

I was actually pulling for Netherlands early on but did not like the way they got by Mexico and also agree it would be great if Costa Rica advances, especially as they belong to CONCACAF, same as the US. Other than that I just want to see some great action and hope whoever wins does it through skill, in regulation time or extra time, but not by penalty kicks. |

The US did fantastically by their standards, but saying that they are better than England or the Rep. of Ireland on the basis of one poor world cup played in the Americas is a bit much. |

I would say that was a fair comment. The US team would have beaten England handily based on their respective performances. |

I dont think the US played so well that they could say they would beat England 'handily'.
The losses to Italy and Uruguay+ Suraez whilst disappointing doesn't mean England are crap. I think you could make the case that at Brazil 2014 Uruguay+ Suraez and Costa Rica were much better sides than Portugal or Ghana. |
