Some of us have done OK in Korea and elsewhere in Asia AND we still post on Dave's to try to help those who follow in our footsteps.

I think some people on here have done well, but nobody on here is filthy rich, or maybe we have different thresholds on what we consider filthy rich. My parents are worth probably somewhere between four and eight million US dollars, but they're just upper middle class people on a budget. My mom drives a Toyota and my dad drives an old truck and haggles prices down on clothes, groceries, etc. They can't go out and buy a 170' yacht for 25 million dollars because that's what rich people do, and mom and dad don't have that kind of money or anywhere close to it. Dad still works the land. George Soros doesn't work the land. Soros is filthy rich.

That's how Americans think about things; that enough is never enough.

They have enough. They're very fortunate. It doesn't mean they're "filthy rich." They're on a budget. If they weren't, they'd soon go broke just like a lot of professional athletes who didn't budget and went broke. Most of us on Dave's are actually very fortunate, because we have lifestyles and budgets that wouldn't have been possible if we had been born in a slum in Bangladesh, sub-Sahara Africa, or many parts of the world. But let's not get carried away and pretend we're Soros, Gates, or Rothschild. Laughing

Thinking enough isn't enough isn't exclusively an American trait. You've spent enough time in Gangnam to know that by now.

As EZE says, "rich" in America is very difficult to calculate as 'net worth' or 'value' is different than disposable income. It's one thing to remember with taxes that claim to be "against the rich" a lot of time they just end up screwing people like farmers or landlords who have a lot of assets but don't generate tremendous amounts of income.

It's all relative.

Many Chinese make $4K/yr and feel they have enough, that they are fortunate.

Wow! Americans are so rich. Even when you're poor, you're rich. But, being frugal, haggling, and saving is not such a bad idea.

Honestly, people who were/are rich have no reason to post on Dave's unless it is out of a sense of amusement. Secondly, people who try to defend their 'richness' with retorts and analysis of "How I Made Myself Rich in Korea" are just trying to convince others that they have something worthwhile to say. People who are most likely rich, i.e. referring to 'long-time posters' such as the -*took the name out so as not to infer any particular person* types never bring up their wealth or position or their business dealings in Dave's just because they realize that their wealth or position are not worth discussing on Dave's with others, UNLESS it is someone who is genuinely interested in improving their self.

I laugh when I read posts by people who have been members on the forums less than 2 ~ 3 years talking about how they have amassed such an enormous amount of wealth in such a short time, but to each their own. If someone wants to believe they are rich then who am I to stand in their way? From a practical point of view, I prefer to remain with my feet in the sand so to speak and let my actions speak louder than my words when it comes to how much money I am earning. Cool

Thank you for the completely unnecessary opinions about "how things are", yet things aren't that way, as demonstrated by my existence.

Your existence has nothing to do with the topic which is being discussed. The nice thing about opinions is that everyone has one and unlike you who has "set the world"on fire at your young age, some of us prefer to be honest with their posts. Now, unless you are ready to begin posting the direct figures of your quickly acquired wealth, which by the way is most likely done 'illegally,' then just post things related to the facts. Laughing

Doesn't make sense; if my existence contradicts a belief it seems relevant.

I don't have opinions, thus my existence makes the above statement untrue.

Made $300K+ last year. Why quickly, I didn't mention speed? Why age, I didn't mention age?

Why would it likely be done illegally? Is this another belief?

Where do all these beliefs and opinions of yours come from I wonder??
