These attitudes really show why they are single, divorced or soon to be divorced. |
I laugh at you for thinking it is anything more than that. |

But the factory system here, coupled with the piles of cash you get as wedding gifts, make it a pretty economical undertaking.
But like someone said above, for a lot of men there is also the prospect of apartment, car, baby, furnishings etc. to contend with. |
I never could understand this line of thinking. Even if your inlaws don't keep most of the wedding gift money, it's not yours free and clear. The reason they keep an account ledger of who gave how much isn't so you can send thank you notes. You are expected to give that much back to those people whenever they get married, or have a baby, or whatever. |
Yes, to an extent. But we won't be here those weddings. So, haha, sucks to be you. |

Cheapo Westerners you say? A Korean wedding hall wedding costs a whole lot less than a decent wedding in the west. A western bride would be embarrassed to serve the slop they have at wedding hall buffets. Korean weddings don't have bands or Djs, rehearsal dinners or open bars. |
This. They're also way less interesting than a lot of budget weddings in the West. |

I was at my Korean in-laws' home after our wedding helping them count the cash they got from the wedding envelopes.
Our wedding venue had a maximum guest limit of 120 people, which was perfect for my wife and I as we didn't want huge numbers of people turning up that we did not know.
Fast forward to our wedding day and 200+ people showed up and all of them couldn't be sat down and fed. Not to mention our wedding cake quickly disappeared before we got to sample any ourselves.
My in-laws (due to inviting more people than we asked them to) made more than 10 million won profit on our wedding. They covered the food cost but we spent our own money on everything else: cake, photographer, florist etc.
I think they might have given us back 1 million won. |

There are some really nice wedding halls. My experiences at them recently has been quite good. I'd agree with you 15 years ago but not now. |

Nice little slice of homophobia there. Stick gay in with other insults and hope no-one calls you on it. |
Ok, so I can put you in the gay category. |

I'm intrigued. What makes these new wedding halls so nice? Do they provide a superior wedding experience? |

Sure, but it doesn't change the fact that Korean weddings are depressing affairs for everyone involved except for the folks getting paid. |

Open bars with a proper bartender mixing drinks or do they still just plop down bottles of soju on the table? Live bands or Djs? Are the guests still just supposed to eat for 30 minutes and go home? |

Well, they need to do something to make it different from a Korean funeral. |
