My contract will be over later this year and I currently teach at a branch of one of Korea's biggest hagwon chains (ex. Avalon, CDI, YBM, etc). And like with most hagwon teachers I've met, I landed this hagwon job fresh out of college with a BA and no teaching certificates.

If I want to make the jump from hagwon to public school, would my 1 year of "teaching experience" be considered as real teaching experience to SMOE? I've heard hagwon experience isn't taken seriously. But considering that I work at a well known hagwon chain I'm hoping its considered legitimate.

I'm also not sure about SMOE requirements nowadays but do I need a teaching certificate and if so which one is more widely accepted?

SMOE is cutting back, and they mostly hire females. With your qualifications (coupled with being male) your chances of getting in are very, very slim. But give it a shot and apply. You never know until you try. Let us know how it goes.
