|
|
I worked in Korea in 2007 at a language school. About half way through the contract I contracted an illness but my employer didn't provide the health insurance as promised. Consequently, I took a taxi to the airport, took a flight home and got treatment on the NHS. Obviously, I didn't give notice.
Apart from the above incident I enjoyed my time in Korea and am thinking of returning. Will the above incident affect my chances of getting an E2 visa? Should I even mention that I worked in Korea before? I have a new passport now. |

I would not worry about it, O.P.
Don't even mention it...but if it comes up, just tell whomever what you posted here. |

Don't you have to say if you've worked in Korea before on the visa application form? Why didn't you make sure you had health insurance when you were working here last time? That's just plain stupidness not to check that kind of thing. It would have cost you less surely to pay for a DR in Korea instead of purchasing a flight home wouldn't it? |

Coming from you...the guy with a million stupid questions who arrived roughly two months ago?
O.P. Pay no attention to that poster.
Clarify: Sure, indicate you have been to Korea before when it comes to visa paper work but you don't have to write it on your resume.
As long as you have a clean criminal record and no diseases, you are fine. Don't stress on it. |

Depends on the illness and the treatment. I know someone who paid a 1.4mil a&e bill here because they had no health insurance, and it would have been a lot higher if they'd agreed to be admitted to hospital. |

I haven't posted any "million stupid questions". They've all been legit ones. Dumb north American blonde speek.
O.P. Pay no attention to that poster.
Why? I said you have to put down you've been to Korea on the visa form. That's what you have to do.
Dumb north American blonde speek again.

It's would be better to admit you worked for 6 months in Korea and be honest about the fact you got ill and had to go home than cover it up with lies.
Dumb answer from a north American blonde again. |

What's up with all his dumb north American blonde talk? A chip on his shoulder? He doesn't know what color the person's hair is. Hmmmm, a problem with people from North America?
fromtheuk, huh sorry, greyhound has stated he has social issues. He mentioned that Koreans don't make eye contact with him and avoid conversation.
It's going to be a long year |

They make eye contact alright. They just don't smile much. sometimes though they do.
Yes OP, you have the information you need. Just be honest. The employer will appreciate honesty.
I don't have any problems with Americans or social issues that I know of.
Younger teachers on here are just giving out bad advice that's all. |

I'm not a puppet young lady. I'm a man and I say things when they're not right.

I generally don't approve of doing midnight runs as such, but in your case, you had a legitimate excuse. You were right to go home if you had a serious illness that the school would not let you treat properly, or that would have been too expensive to treat.
As far as I know, you cannot apply for jobs in South Korea until after the date at which your old visa would have run out. You can then start the process for a new visa.
I think that's the case. Others can feel free to correct me if I am wrong. |

Indeed, you DO. |

OP
Ignore most of what you read above. They know not of what they speak.
Since your ARC has long since expired returning on a new E2 is not a problem provided you have the paperwork for a new E2.
Be aware that the situation at hagwons isn't much different now than it was in 2007. No NHIC is still typical.
You will NOT need, as one poster suggested above, to repay the unpaid premiums on the NHIC. Payback only occurs when you have maintained the same status of sojourn (ARC). When you left that debt was retired (if they were even aware that it existed in the first place).
YOu will need to include the lost job on your resume IF your employment shows as far back as 2007. Many people only include the last 5 years on a resume.
You WILL need to include it on your visa application or if you are applying for a public school position. Be aware that you may need to explain your actions and many employers will see a runner as a negative regardless of the justification for it. Pass them by and just move on.
