I hope someone can help me with my dilemma. Ok, I currently live in a homogenous whitebread community. It is not one of those boondocks, but I do miss city since I was born and bred in the big city, da Seoul.

I recently got a job offer and is seriously considering to move to a bigger city. However, I am realizing everyday how expensive it is to buy a house up there. My new job will not pay more, but the same as my current job. Sucks. Right now, I have a killer house and beautiful garden. My mortgate rate is only 4.70%. I have amazing friends down here and know my way around this town. Hmmm, writing all this shit down is already helping me, I guess. It is obvious that I am comfortable here and scared shitless of making a transition to a bigger city. All these years, I thought I was adventurous. Dang.

I was planning on paying off my current house; well almost by 2006 and then moving to the city. That way, I thought I'd have more money for downpayment. I will be also vested, so I can take all of my retirement money with me, not just the half. If I move there right now, I could probably buy something decent, but most of my paycheck will go to pay the mortgate. It means...no monthly facial, no fancy organic produce, fewer trips abroad, etc. Heck, I may even have to go back to Winco and start using coupons...argh....

The thing is though....I hate my current job. I hate it. I hate it. I can not stand my boss and am tired of doing same shit every fucking day. God, I am so down right now.

Sounds like it will be better for you to enjoy the inexpensive lifestyle and get your city from vacations to Seoul.

More details. Why don't you like the boss, and why don't you like your job? For a foreigner the usual problem with the boss is that 'the boss is the boss' in Korea and carries on like they're some kind of dictator/king/queen/princess, whatever. So their directives come across as accusations because they've hung back, not doing or saying anything much because they are the boss and you are 'just doing your job'. That is the job of the boss is to rule with the worker's to serve. Not much communicating going on, and especially not as 'equals' and so 'friendly'. But on the surface, where everything 'floats' in Korea everything's just fine and dandy so I would say what's wrong with your job. It's the same thing everyday. So what?! Isn't that nice, as in 'stability'. You have a fine time after work; at least you have a job. I say this because, in my experience, paying too much attention to the boss (because 'you hate the boss') and the job ('oh, it's the same everyday!') means stop fixating on the boss and get more of a life going after work. I know you're not a foreigner but I've seen lots of foreigners get their 'nose up' because the Korean boss carries on like they're the lord above and won't represent them in their squirming about this and that. Just accept seems to be the Korean way. So I've, personally, become more 'bovine' in accepting what I've got and why blow it? Sure it's bla bla bad and bla bla boring but hey, it's a job. The rest is up to me.

Thanks guys, I am in the states right now; I got out of the teaching gig a long time ago. I decied to move to the bigger city last night. Can't wait to give one month's notice today. Yes!
