Is it? Cause I don't know what racism is any more, been here too long, got all confused between cultural differences and racism. Anyway ...

Girl I'm seeing informs me that when she told her friends she was seeing a foreigner thier collective response ( every single one ) was to say "You must stop seeing him immediately, he's a foreigner".

So, what is this?

I would say ignorance. And perhaps discrimination. I'm unsure whether I would call it racism though. But like you, I'm not 100% sure what racism is anymore. So I looked it up...

Quote:
From www.m-w.com:

Main Entry: racism
Pronunciation: 'rA-"si-z&m also -"shi-
Function: noun
1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
- racist /-sist also -shist/ noun or adjective

After looking at this definition, I'm thinking it would count as racism since what they said seems to imply some sort of prejudice. Did they say anything else besides that incredibly ignorant comment?

racism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (rszm)
n.
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Foreigner = person of non-Korean heritage = person of a race different to Koreans

"Don't date him, he's a foreigner." = prejudice based on race = racist

Come on now! Well all KNOW that koreans are the superior race in the world! And they think that dating or marrying a non korean is beneath their diginity! And will only screw them up more than they are by going "outside."
Silly me...I thought that koreans were educated and far above the inmaturity that they display and exhibit.

It's a polite way of saying "you must stop seeing him immediately, he's a sheep-molester. He'll give you anthrax."

my take on this is that her friends think that since you are a foriegner you are only using her as a bit of comfort and sex while you are in korea and that you have no intention of ever marrying her. Therefore she shouldn't waste anytime on you and go out with a korean guy who may marry her one day.
