Does anyone have info on how to change won into dollars without using your passport?

Don't want Immigration to know I'm working here. Thanks.

If you are going to exchange money, a passport or your ARC are required for the transaction. Smile

The only way would be to do it when you go to the States or have someone do it for you.

Would they pass this information on to immigration? Would immigration notice?

The cube is spot on. There are loads of money changers in Itaewon and they dont require a passport. I changed several million won into dollars there and it was no problem.

They also give a better rate than the banks.

Just curious, but how's life working under the radar? Is it as lucrative as I have heard?

ha ha, yeah, i'm a skilled reader like that. Still, I don't think he'd get into trouble showing his passport.

The exchange at Gyeongbokgung Palace today was $1=1110 won. I found that to be quite low. I thought prices were near the 1140-1150 range to buy.

of course it's low...you're at a tourist hotspot. You'll get low rates in Itaewon as well.

Go to a money exchanger(ie. not a bank) and haggle a little for the rate. Should be plenty in Itaewon, maybe the rate won't be quite as good but you won't need to show any documentation.

You won't need to show any ID but try to find one you know is reputable.

Also the ones at Incheon apparently don't ask for passports.
