College-obsessed society spurs cheating
Some officials at the Education Ministry think that cheating is a custom that happens every year. "We deserve to be a target of criticism from the public," said Kim Doo-yong at the Education Ministry. "The cheating scams have existed for several years. We were burdened with things that need to be taken care of [for the national college exam]."
The law was also generous to those who were involved in the cheating scam, allowing them to take the exam again the next year. The nation's education-centered society is afraid that students' future could be hurt if they were delayed from re-taking the exam.

I spent 2 years on my universities discipline committee. 95% of the cases were for cheating of some form. I heard maybe 50 cases, only 2 were not either chinese or korean.

Someone above asked about cheating rates on SATs in the US. Search on "SAT cheating" brought up the stat that 1000 answer sheets a year are invalidated each year (out of 2 million) on suspicion of cheating. You would be amazed even in kindergarten they cheat, the little devils. I had an incident where I caught them cheating on a test. I told my boss and ripped the papers up in front of them and told them if they ever did it again I'd tell their parents.

I have to wonder if even that will make them think twice about doing it again. I know it's harsh treatment for 6 and 7 year olds, but like I told my boss I'm going to hold them to a high standard of conduct whether the school expects it or not.

Police Reveal Higher Tally Of Gwangju Exam Cheats
Police have uncovered other student cells suspected of cheating on the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) in Gwangju using mobile phones. This raises the number of those involved to 183 spread over four well-organized units - a statistic that is likely to climb higher still if other students' allegations prove true.

Am I the only one who finds Real Reality's whole presense on this forum ironic?

He only posts Korean news links. Most put Korea in a negative light. Now, how credible can the Korean news be, if like RR keeps going on Korea has so many negative aspects, such as cheating?

If the New York Times can have people making up false stories, how credible are these Korean reports that keep getting linked time and time again?

Point: Yeah some kids cheated.
Korean News: always blows the smallest thing out of proportion. This is no different. A few students cheat and it's on the news day and night for a week. But like all other Korean news, it is quickly forgotten for the next thing to be blown out of proportion.
Real Reality: a tool who cannot post his own opinions, and he wonders why he isn't paid the same as his Korean counterparts or able to score a good job. Almost two years since you joined, and STILL posting useless crap.

According to analyses of 248,000 among 300,000,000 text messages sent on the day of the examinations, provided by SK Telecom and LG Telecom, 550 messages that only consist of numbers sent during the exam period were found to match or resemble the answers to the tests. KTF submitted an additional 17,000 messages to the police on the same afternoon. A police source stated that "according to this analysis of text messages, it is highly probable that cheating during the college entrance exams may have occurred," and that "if one group had transmitted the answers to multiple recipients, the size of the cheating group could be substantial."
